Fun bonding activities (with minimal mess), spa treatments, gourmet takeaways and deliveries, fresh flowers, gift ideas and more.
With the circuit breaker measures firmly in place, it’s time to roll up your sleeves (we’re talking to you, dads!) and get creative. Just because we can’t go outside because of the circuit breaker doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate Mother’s Day. Yep, us mums still need the red carpet treatment – especially after working from home WHILE also attempting to deal with homeschooling and figuring out sourdough bread. It’s a tough job and although we secretly love doing it, we want to be appreciated too! So here’s our handy tip: bookmark this article, send it to the hubby, sit back and wait for the magic to happen. And if the magic isn’t happening, a handy threat of them dealing with homeschooling (by themselves) for a week works just as well.
What we really want
We asked some of the HoneyKids mums what they really wanted for Mother’s Day and most of them said they wished for a sleep-in, peace and quiet, and time to relax. Easy peasy Mother’s Day gift, right – especially during the circuit breaker! So please don’t roll your eyes when we tell you we want to lock the door, blast the AC and get the time to read a book or two. Thanks!
… but these would be really great too
(Attempt to) cook up a storm
When you’re done giving us our much-needed alone time, you can wake us up (gently) with some breakfast in bed – smoked salmon and avo toast, blueberry pancakes – you know the drill. Oh, and since everyone’s delivering, you might as well order us some really good coffee, too. Need more breakfast inspo? Here’s some fun things you can do with toast. If you’re not really a cooking kinda guy, you can get us food from these guys:
Hard Rock Cafe is doing free doorstep delivery and has lots of great takeaway deals (15% off a la carte meals). Any order of two adult meals gets you a complimentary New York cheesecake! Want a more DIY-style meal? SPRMRKT has DIY meals good for 2-3 adults and two kids. If a five-star meal is what you’re looking for, Shangri-La has a high-tea set that comes with 12 savoury and sweet items like chilli crab puffs, ondeh ondeh, rainbow lapis and more. Huzzah!
Nothing says love more than a bouquet of flowers
Mums, raise your hands if you love a nice bouquet of flowers. Tried-and-tested, nothing beats a surprise bouquet on the doorstep (which is quite easy, thanks to contactless delivery) or seeing a great vase of flowers on your dining table. We’ve found the prettiest posies and most fab flower delivery services that are open during this circuit breaker period. You’re welcome.
Want to get the kids involved? Sing See Soon has a super cute floral arrangement kit for little ones ages 2 to 6 so they can get hands on. And yes, Dad can help too! Psst… candle bundles are also available (every mum loves candles, folks!).
Add these to your basket
We love our accessories and we’re currently crushing on the uber dainty earrings from By Invite Only – who says you need an actual party to work on your ear party? Even if we’re stuck working from home, we still need to work on our Zoom outfit game. For this, we’re loving the bright block print kaftans from Zojora – comfy, breezy and the pop of colour we need during these trying times. For more gift ideas, check this out.
Get crafty with the kids
Having a tough time getting the kids to sit down with you for some online shopping? Hunt down those craft supplies and try out these craft ideas for kids of all ages: we’re talking rock painting, origami heart bookmarks and more – whoop whoop! Or, in light of the times, you could even make a DIY face mask.
Learn the art of massage
NEWSFLASH: Udemy is offering a beginner’s massage class at only $18.99! Yep, you can learn how to give the love of your life the massage she so rightfully deserves. Go the extra mile and stock up on essential oils and face masks to complete the whole spa experience.
Yes, after coffee (depending on how much home schooling we’ve done during the day), wine is our go-t0 beverage. Our big sister the Honeycombers has come up with an incredible list of all the alcohol delivery services on the island. Whatever your poison – beer, wine, sake, spirits – they’ve got you covered. So much yas.
If all else fails…
Although we might whine about it every once in a while, we do love our family time – spending quality time together, even if we’re just at home, always works. We can build blanket forts and watch family movies, splash in the paddling pool and eat popsicles or even just workout as a family. You’ve got this!
