Family-friendly cities to visit with the kids
1. Bangkok, Thailand
We love Thailand at the best of times, and Bangkok is great for family-friendly trips and activities. Explore its aquatic wonderland at Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World or enjoy adrenaline-pumping rollercoasters at Dream World theme park. The littlies will never want to leave this city of endless fun! Looking for edutainment? Bounce away with the fam at Bounce Bangkok for even more fun times! Or, enjoy some outdoor fun at the Children’s Discovery Museum. There’s a giant sandbox, climbing gym, and even a water play area!
2. Melbourne, Australia
This won’t be the only time Australia appears on this list, and with good reason. Australia has loads of cities that are great to visit with kids, and you can’t go wrong with Melbourne. Our trusty junior reporter put the city to the test, and it scored highly – check out her review for all the details!
3. Danang & Hoi An, Vietnam
Danang is super easy to get to from our Little Red Dot. The food is fabulous, the beaches are incredible, and the shopping (especially bespoke tailoring) is super cheap. A beach resort is a bit pricier but totally worth the money for all the splashing family fun the kids will have. Read more about what we did in Danang and Hoi An here.
4. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Think of Ho Chi Minh City and just think of bikes and chaos? Wrong! Ho Chi Minh is a great place to check out with the kids. There’s loads to keep them entertained, and it’s the perfect distance for a long weekend. Don’t believe us? Check out our tried and tested guide for what to see and do!
5. Seoul, South Korea
Seoul is a great choice for a family trip! This one’s a colourful city with a rich culture perfect to be explored with tiny tots. Dress up in a Hanbok (a 1,600-year-old Korean celebratory outfit worn by men, women and children) and visit the mural village with loads of street art to be admired. And did we mention the scrumptious Korean cuisine? Don’t miss delish family-friendly food options when you visit this beautiful city with the kids!
6. Sydney, Australia
For a more laid-back cosmopolitan experience, Sydney is a great city break for the family. Tiny tots will enjoy Taronga Zoo (read all about our writer’s experience in the amazing Taronga Wildlife Retreat) and while you’re there, adventurous teens will get a kick out of the Wild Ropes aerial assault. The famous Manly Ferry offers a gorgeous view of Sydney Harbour, and once you reach Manly there’s loads of beach fun to be had. End the day with a walk at Circular Quay and snap some stunning photos. After all, this trip is sure to be a memorable one!
7. Perth, Australia
The capital of Western Australia, Perth is a delight to be savoured time and time again either for a sneaky long weekend or school holiday break. One place that’ll be great to take the kids is Elizabeth Quay – plenty of things to see and do over here! There’s a super cool (and free) playground, and an interactive water park, or go on a stroll along the riverside and public art via the arched suspension bridge. Don’t forget to spend a day at Fremantle Markets too.
8. London, UK
London is a great launchpad for anywhere else in Europe. Bring the munchkins along and head to any of the museums (the Natural History Museum is sure to be a hit) or head to a theatre show instead. Wander around Covent Garden and catch the street performers, or visit the London Transport Museum if you’ve got a train enthusiast. One thing you can’t miss? Buckingham Palace early in the morning to watch the Changing of the Guards! There’s plenty to do with the kiddos in London, and once you’ve got the hang of the Tube and the bus system, it’s a breeze!
9. Tokyo, Japan
One city in the world that families love visiting with their kids is definitely Tokyo! Not only is the city kid-friendly (hello, Disneyland and DisneySea!) but is chock full of historical sights that will awe and amaze even the little ones. Bring some stillness into your lives with a visit to Meiji Shrine Park. Shop till you drop at Harajuku – there are many clothing stores that the whole fam can enjoy browsing. Thinking of visiting the museums? There are many of them here; we recommend the Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama and the Ghibli Museum for fans of Studio Ghibli.
10. Athens, Greece
Athens is a little bit further afield from Singapore, but it’s a great spot to take your culture vulture tweens and teens to explore. There’s loads of history to take in, such as climbing the Acropolis and the ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The street food is delicious (we’re drooling over those souvlakis!), and the wine is cheap too. What’s not to love? HoneyKids Asia took the kids to Athens! Check out our experience here.
11. Zurich, Switzerland
Being the largest city in Switzerland, there’s plenty to excite the kiddos in Zurich! Add WOW Museum to your list of things to do here, as the little ones (and big ones) will be amazed by the unique museum with optical illusions. Once you’ve convinced the kiddos to leave the museum, head to Uetilbrg, where you can indulge in stunning views of the city at 850 metres above sea level. The fun doesn’t stop there: you’ll also wanna chill with the fam at Zurich’s very own Botanic Gardens and Lake Zurich. Now go live like the Swiss!

This eternal city will no doubt grab the littlies’ attention. Indulge in the world’s best Italian ice cream with the kids here as they admire Rome’s streets and architecture. Let them experience the first traditional, open-air puppet theatre for some kiddie entertainment, and don’t miss the gorgeous monuments with domes, temples and amphitheatres that’ll leave you and the kiddies in awe. The perfect city break with the kids, albeit 15 hours away, is San Francisco. Prepare yourself for the long journey, but we promise it’ll be worth it. The little ones will enjoy traipsing the hills of San Fran on the trams and checking out the sea lions at Pier 39. There’s plenty for tweens and teens to check out, too: Alcatraz and lunch at the Ferry Building is just one idea. Check out what we got up to with our little ones in San Francisco!
