4. The Mongol Khan
Mongol Khan has arrived in Singapore for the very first time! This creative spectacle combines dancing, singing, acrobatics and puppetry. Adapted from a three-act tragedy by Lkhagvasuren Bavuu, the play tells the fictional story of the ruler Archug Khan, set in the ancient realm of Mongolia some 2,000 years past. The story follows two Queens, Tsetser and Gerel, who both bore sons in close succession. A cloud of doubt hovered over the paternity of Tsetser’s child. The estranged relationship between Tsetser and Archug Khan fueled suspicions, and it was later revealed that her son was the result of an affair with Egereg, Archug Khan’s trusted advisor.
We were lucky enough to see the show for ourselves and it is a truly remarkable theatrical spectacle. The costumes are striking with grand sets and passionate performances. We found some of the scenes intense for younger kiddos, and would recommend for age 8 and over. There are English speaking performances if you aren’t keen to follow the subtitles when showcased in Mongolian, although there is something special seeing this cultural phenomenon spoken in its native tongue. Prepare to be amazed – we’ve not seen anything like this!
When: 17 October – 3 November 2024
Where: The Mongol Khan, Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. Tickets from $48
