Singapore is awesome when it comes to playgrounds, and we’re not just talking about the big, well-known park playgrounds. We are also huge fans of hidden HDB playground gems, and thought we’d share some of the very best HDB playgrounds Singapore has to offer for your playground bucket list. Spoiler: this list could be neverending, so we’ve started with a few of our personal favourites, and we’ll be updating regularly, so bookmark this page!
HDB playgrounds we love in Singapore
1. Multiple fruit-themed playgrounds at Plantation Grange, Tengah
Tengah isn’t one of the neighbourhoods you would normally visit but if you happen to be in the area with the kiddos, there are four new fruit-themed playgrounds to check out at Plantation Grange. From a durian-themed rope climbing structure to a pineapple slide, the little ones will definitely enjoy playtime even if fruits aren’t their favourite snack. Do note that some of these play areas are more suitable for kids aged six to 12 as the climbing structures are a bit more advanced!

2. Transport-themed playgrounds at Ubi Grove
Ubi Grove has a massive play area with 4 different transportation-themed playgrounds to choose from! Don’t worry, you don’t need COE to play on the giant car, cargo truck, and other vehicles that you’ll come across. The gas prices are also at an all-time low at the cute gas station – playtime here runs on fun.

3. The Arena @ Keat Hong
This massive playground in Choa Chu Kang will have the kids playing for hours! Those who love seeking a thrill from high points can climb the Treetop Adventure while littler ones can explore the Pirate Ship nearby. Other highlights include interactive stations and fitness areas for the elderly and adults – so make a multi-generational family day of it!

4. Dakota Breeze Aviation Playground
The fun takes off at the aviation-themed playground located at Dakota Breeze, Jalan Satu. The best part – it’s free and open to the public, you don’t even need to bring your passport. Your little aviation friend is in for a treat with a heliport featuring cool climbing structures, see-saws, and much more! Find out more here!

5. Airplane-themed playground at Bukit Batok
Sky’s the limit for fun at this airplane-themed playground in Bukit Batok! There are more things to do on this plane than meets the eye – 2 slides, multiple climbing surfaces, monkey bars, and much more. Little ones who aspire to be pilots one day will love the “control panel” inside where they can let their imagination soar!

6. Themed playgrounds at Tampines GreenDew
The kiddos will be spoilt for choice at Tampines GreenDew residential estate with 3 utterly swoon-worthy playgrounds! Choose from the Forest Playground, a toddler-friendly Arctic-inspired playground completed with penguin structures and the Desert Playground that’s suited to slightly older kiddos. Climbing structures, hammocks, swings – there’s something for every kid to explore!

7. Alice in Wonderland playground at Dawson Vista
You don’t need to fall through a rabbit hole to get to this playground! This is probably one of the few HDB playgrounds that has a children’s book theme to it. The colourful structures and walls will definitely make this a favourite among the kiddos! Psst, there’s a restaurant nearby that serves local breakfast and lunch. Great place to dine with a playground to keep kids entertained.

8. Toa Payoh Dinosaur playground
First things first – there’s not much to this playground, but (and it’s a big butt in dinosaur form), dino fans are sure to love this place nevertheless because it’s not every day you clock dinos in between HDB blocks. Toa Payoh dinosaur playground is a must for any dino fans out there (plus, the famous dragon playground is just across the way, so you can kill two birds with one visit!).

9. Hansel and Gretel playground at Clementi Crest
Another small playground, but perfect for imaginative play – we are huge fans of the cute Hansel and Gretel playground over in Clementi. With little houses, slides, and tonnes of sweet decorations, what’s not to love? And bonus, it’s got cover too!

10. Spaceship playground @ Strathmore Avenue
A playground with a spaceship design? Yes, please! There’s also ample space on the playground structure for babies who are crawling and learning to walk (supervised, of course!), so it’s a great one for all the family.

11. Playground at Tampines West Community Club
One that should be very high on the list for climbing frame fans, Tampines West Community Club has heaps of climbing options for young and older kids. We’d probably keep the main structure for the more experienced kids (although our four-year-old was eager to test it out!).

12. Eco-Jungle Adventure playground at SkyParc @ Dawson
A treehouse adventure-theme playground with lots of balancing and rope-climbing involved. Aside from the slides and play gym that’s built for children two and above, there’s a little hut for toddlers that younger children can play at too. The playground is connected to the Eco-Corridor @ Dawson, with birdhouses and bee hotels made from eco-friendly materials. Good for walks and outdoor learning!

13. Tampines Ville
This might not be the newest or most novel playground on the block, but it’s on our list because it has a huge benefit: it’s covered! We love that you’ve got the best of both worlds, with outdoor, free play, but with the guarantee that the weather won’t ruin the fun. Plus, it’s for a great range of slides that are sure to impress the little ones.

14. Playground at Fuji Hill Park
Thought Admiralty Park was the only place to head for slides? Wrong. What Fuji Hill Park at Bukit Batok might lack in quantity, it more than makes up for in the quality of slides on offer. This is definitely one for the older kids with no fear. Parents, you have been warned!

15. Tampines Green View playground
Green View by name and green by nature, this playground blends in with its surroundings, but you’d be foolish to miss it. Kids are sure to love exploring this vast playground, which has plenty of opps for imaginative play. This is also a great one to have on your list for the little ones, with a gentle slide and beginner climbing frame and tunnel.

16. Toa Payoh Crest playground
This playground has a great range of options for all ages. We love the slides (and the breeze!) here. It’s also a bit of a climb for the kids, so it’s a great one for burning off all that energy clambering back up using ropes. Don’t miss out on the toddler-friendly playground spot around the corner, either!

17. Clock playground at Bishan bus interchange
An oldie but a goodie! Technically this is at the bus interchange, but we are squeezing it in so you don’t miss it off your list. This clock playground might be tiny, but the novelty is enough to keep us returning again and again. Did you know that during the 1980s, playground designs were centred on nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and animals? Can you guess which one this playground is inspired by?

18. Tampines GreenWeave
What’s that – more fabulous playgrounds in Tampines? Okay, we might be a little biased since our awesome former-writer-now-Honeycombers teamie (and playground hunter) lives close by. But look at this place! It might just win the design awards as far as playgrounds go. There’s a total of four playgrounds here. We love the twisted structured bridge. Don’t miss the slide, climbing nets, and hammock forest here either; there is loads to explore (and it all looks this beautiful!).

19. Dragon playground in Toa Payoh
Having made the list of 15 Amazing Playgrounds From All Over The World, the dragon playground is definitely a local celebrity and can’t be missed off this list of HDB playgrounds in Singapore. There used to be a few of these sand–based playgrounds in the late 1970s and early 1980s, featuring dragon heads decorated with terrazzo tiles, a spine of steel rails (aka our version of jungle gyms), a slide, and swings. Gotta do it for the gram, at the very least!

20. Watermelon and Mangosteen playground
Another big theme for playground designs in the late 1980s was fruit. Some designs were based on locations, such as Choa Chu Kang, which was once a farming area. The only two that remain in the fruity fun series are the watermelon and mangosteen versions at Tampines Central Park. We love how the red mosaic tiles of the watermelon playground matched the red of the surrounding HDB blocks.

21. Bumboat Playground
Another throwback playground to have on your list – the concrete bumboat playground situated in Pasir Ris is in a series focused on local icons such as the sampan, rickshaw, and kampong houses. Not only is this playground a great place for the kids to burn off excess energy, but it’s also an opportunity to explain all about the diversity of incredible cultures we have right here in Singapore!
