31 August – Teachers’ Day
5 October – Children’s Day (for primary schools only)

Once you’ve got these dates pencilled in, it’s time to start planning. If you’re not keen on travel, there are still loads of places to take the kids in Singapore – here’s 100 of the best indoor spots, for starters – including museums, swimming pools and shopping centres, but if you’re dying to get off the island and away from all the trappings of daily life, we have a few ideas for you…

If you’re looking for someplace to chill for a long weekend, there are island getaways aplenty where the kids get to do their thing in the resort kids’ club while you kick back with a good book. Or, if leaving the country is all too hard, check into a hotel for a staycation with the kids and enjoy catered meals, a pool, and most importantly, someone else doing the washing up.

Other than long weekends, there are the school holidays to look forward to with the many offerings of holiday camps. But once the kids are done with that, you’re still left with the rest of the month, or – gasp!– months. Why not hop on a direct flight to Japan or Laos or schedule that ski trip you’ve been talking about? Animal lovers will appreciate Asia’s ethical wildlife encounters, and nature fans will love the many farm stays and nature parks on offer. Or, just retreat to a peaceful forest resort and channel your inner chi.
