It's barbecue season! (But isn’t it always time for a BBQ here?) If you’re in the mood for a spread of grilled sausages, steaks and all the trimmings, we’ve done the hunting and gathering for you: bookmark our guide to the best Western-style butchers in Singapore
True story: Girl goes home to Sydney after living in Singapore for three years and what’s the first thing she Instagrams? Not a smug, sunshiny snap of Bondi Beach, but a photo of the artisan sausages at the local butcher with the caption: “Ahhhh, this is what I’ve really been missing”. Let’s face it, as much as we love the Little Red Dot for being a food haven, it’s still hard to find the real deal if you’ve been raised on a diet of gourmet sausages, succulent grass-fed steak and marinated free-range chicken. Even when you dine out at the best kid-friendly cafes and restaurants the island has to offer. But fret not, barbecue lovers, we’ve found the best butchers in Singapore who can make your year-round summer feast a roaring success. Even better, most do home deliveries, so all you have to do is break out your barbecue equipment and head to the park for a proper barbie!
The Meat Club
New-age Aussie meat delivery business, The Meat Club, is one we’re big fans of, and it has incredibly tender meat and a very cool Auto-Pilot option. Let us explain: These guys supply all-Australian beef and lamb, fly it pre-packed in meal-size portions into Singapore, and then deliver it to your door. The packaging technology it uses allows the meat to last in the fridge for 28 days (14 days for mince), so your meat is never frozen. You can order a pack, or sign up for its Auto-Pilot option, which means you’ll automatically receive your meat order every four weeks. How handy is that? We have tried and tasted the product, and the tenderness is out of this world.
Where: online and also via Redmart
Does it deliver? Of course! If you opt for Auto-Pilot, expect delivery on the first Saturday of every month.
Now with three branches, this Aussie-style butcher brings in its beef, veal, lamb and pork from Down Under and lays claim to offering the largest selection of gourmet sausages in Singapore: handmade from Australian meat and all-natural casings, of course. Pick up the kebabs and wildly popular lamb and mint burger patties for your grill, or a barbecue pack starting from $100. And, hallelujah, you can pick up other Aussie treats, such as stocks and sauces by South Australian food doyenne Maggie Beer and uber-foodie Simon Johnson, plus six-packs of Little Creatures: a cracking pale ale you’ll want to serve ice cold at your feast.

Here’s what we love: Huber’s ‘no-fuss’ grill platter, which comes with marinated ribeye, lamb cutlets, spicy Italian and chicken-cheese sausages. Fancy some satay? Red meat is fresh, not frozen, and flown in from Australia, where Jenny and Susie got hooked on fantastic local produce. The Malaysia-sourced chicken is hormone-and-antibiotic free, and its sausages are impressive: expect chipolatas, pork chorizo and more – or indulge in a barbecue set from $100, which includes all the trimmings such as buns, kebabs and marinades. While you’re there, add some freshly baked ciabatta and a bottle of punchy Aussie red to go with all that flame-cooked meat.

Sasha’s Fine Foods
Okay, this isn’t a butcher, but ask any mum-in-the-know where to source top-quality, ethically sourced meat and seafood, and you’ll hear about Sasha’s Fine Foods (formerly known as The Barbie Girls). Founder Sasha Conlan started out by sourcing the top-notch produce she was missing when she moved to Singapore, and is passionate about providing local families with hormone and antibiotic-free meat that’s entirely traceable. We’re impressed by the offering of fresh sausages (hallelujah: free-range Aussie pork!), Tasmanian grass-fed steak, New Zealand salmon and ethically reared local chicken.
