Looking for a cool respite from the heat of shopping on Orchard Road, with some action-packed fun thrown in? We checked out Singapore's first ever all-in-one funground, X-SCAP8 (pronounced 'Escapade'). Here's our verdict!
There’s a new indoor play centre in town, X-SCAP8, and it’s a doozy! Shopping with kids in tow is always a bit of a nightmare, even if you stumble across a mall with a playground or you factor in visits to toy shops to stem the whining. Although, this can be dangerous for both your wallet and inducing meltdowns if you leave empty-handed! So, if you can combine a shopping trip in Orchard with a tasty lunch and a visit to Singapore’s first all-in-one funground, X-SCAP8, you’ll be sure to turn those frowns upside down.
X-SCAP8 was conceptualised by the team responsible for some of our other favourite play centres, The Polliwogs. Creators ‘The Seriously Fun Group’ aimed to take things up a notch with more thrilling experiences at X-SCAP8 – and it shows!
X-SCAP8: First impressions

There are five specially curated zones to explore, as well as the ‘Eat-Play-Laugh’ Resto Bar serving tasty burgers and drinks that overlook the Singapore skyline and Orchard Road.
So what can you expect from a visit to X-SCAP8? The centrepiece is the three-storey-high ‘Infinity and Beyond’ ropes adventure course that is not for the faint-hearted! There’s also a Smash Lab, an X-Warrior Challenge with ladders and timers so you can compete against your friends (with a cheeky fun slide to finish!), an Arcade Zone with shoot-em-up and joystick games, motorcycle racers and claw machines, and there’s even a very cool golf simulator.
Test your mettle on the Infinity and Beyond High Element Adventure Course

Push yourself to new heights (literally!) and work your way around this ten-metre-high obstacle course. Test your physical and mental strength as your traverse rope bridges, climb and swing across ladders and frames, and the most petrifying of all – ride a bicycle and a skateboard across a balance beam (we may have freaked out a little over this one). Kids need to be at least 1.2 metres tall to participate, and kids under ten years old will need an adult with them, which means you might need to give this a go yourself. The sense of accomplishment for completing all three levels is worth the $35 per person price tag.
Psst, don’t forget your sneakers, and make sure you leave someone on the ground to film you having fun!
Get a little crazy at the Smash Lab

We always wanted to do this! Let your stress out on inanimate objects in the Smash Lab. Don a protective suit and headgear, choose your hammer, baseball bat or wrench, and then pick from a selection of old computers, typewriters, TV Screens and glass bottles that are priced according to value. Then you can release your frustration and stress and scream, shout and destroy at will in this soundproof room. It’s a safe space to escape from reality, although be warned that you will be filmed so your friends can see you in action! This one is for adults only, and each 45-minute session costs $35 for a solo session or $65 for two. Happy smashing!
Compete against your friends in the X-Warrior Course
For a limited time, with every $30 per person spent at the restaurant, you can have a complimentary try at the X-Warrior Challenge. Kids need to be 1.2 metres tall, and under ten need an adult’s supervision. Designed to test your speed, agility and strength, just like in those ‘Total Wipeout’ or ‘Ninja Warrior’ TV shows, you need to climb across ladders, swing over a zipline, and spring from board to board as quickly as possible. There’s even a timer to satisfyingly slap when you complete the course, so you can see which of your fam is the ultimate X-Warrior!
Pssst, watch out for the slide at the end; it is very speedy!
Have some retro fun in the Arcade Zone

If you need to give your heart rate a rest, head over to the Arcade Zone, where you’ll find a bunch of old-school games like Super Mario , Pac-Man, Donkey Kong – there are over 200 to choose from! There are also claw machines, a shoot-em-up alien game, and ride-on motorcycle racers. At only $1 per token, this is the most wallet-friendly area of X-SCAP8, and littlies can join in too.
Get Golfing on the X-SCAP8 ‘Balls and Birdies’ Golf Simulator

If you or your kiddos enjoy a spot of golf, there’s no need to trek out to a course when there’s a fun simulator right here in X-SCAP8. With sofas to relax and watch from (and enjoy a snack or two), whether you are a novice or an expert, you can have a go at a plethora of virtual courses. At $60 for a one-hour session, up to four people can enjoy the simulator together, making it great fun for a party or after-work drinks! May the fores be with you.
Chill and enjoy a tasty lunch (or dinner!) at the Eat-Play-Laugh Resto Bar

Even if you just drop in for lunch and a couple of arcade games, X-SCAP8 is well worth a visit next time you’re in the Orchard area. We highly recommend the burger with the generous serving of chips and a side salad, and the view from the alfresco dining area is beautiful. Fun for the whole fam!
