Disney fanatics, unite! Deck out the whole fam in Mickey Mouse ears and get ready for a frozen good time as your favourite Disney characters are brought to life by professional ice skaters!
We are huge fans of all things Disney here at HoneyKids HQ, so when we heard that Disney on Ice was returning to Singapore after four long years (this time with Mickey and Friends in tow), we were very, very excited. Not only are some classic Disney stories told in short segments (no need to watch a whole feature-length film when you can get a ten-minute synopsis on skates!) All of our favourite Disney princesses, the crews from Toy Story, Inside Out and Finding Nemo, along with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald, will be taking to the rink to dazzle and delight!
We took the whole family to see the show on opening day, including Nan and Pop, Mum, an almost-teen, a tween, and a toddler. So what was the verdict of each age group, and what are the top tips we can offer for you to enjoy the show? Here are our top five reasons to take the fam to see the show this March school holidays.
1. ‘It’s lovely seeing Mickey and Minnie still charming new generations after so many years!’ – Nan and Pop
Mickey and Minnie are the stars of this show, along with their best friends Goofy and Donald. The troupe lead the audience down memory lane from their first cartoons together, to some of Mickey’s most spectacular moments (who can forget Mickey as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice in Fantasia?) There were Mickey and Minnie ears aplenty in the audience, which was a nice touch!
2. ‘Dory is adorable and heartwarming’ – Nan and Pop

The sweet tale of Dory, the forgetful fish and Nemo’s best friend, is brought to life on the ice in a condensed ten-minute segment. The costumes are cute and funny, with the kids giggling furiously over the fish’s googley eyes. Dory reuniting with her family was a lovely moment, and keep a lookout for the giant octopus!
3. ‘The aerial displays are awesome! Rapunzel and Ariel are so much cooler at Disney on Ice than they are in the movies!’ – Emily, 10 years

Some of our all-time favourite princesses make an appearance in a strong show of girl power! Seeing them all together ice dancing in unison brought the strength and stay of the infatuation with the Disney princess to the fore, and they didn’t need all the ‘Prince Charmings’ to partner them (although it was adorable when they did!) Special shout-outs to Rapunzel on the silks and Ariel on the rope for the incredible acrobatic aerial displays!
4. ‘The Moana segment is spectacular – she sails on a boat across the ice, and the manta ray comes to life!’ – Mum

‘I am Moana!’ has never been more powerful than when the beautiful skater on her magic boat glides across the ice, following the giant silk manta ray billowing out in front of her. Maui is hilarious in his buffed-up body suit and had us all in fits of laughter with his groovy dance moves.
5. ‘You get to see Anna and Elsa, and there’s a real ice palace and fireworks!’ – Sophie, 3 years

All the little ones’ favourite, Frozen, is brought to life in an extended segment, that even features magical fireworks and icy stairs for Elsa to climb! Elsa’s dress sparkles like it’s on fire, and our little one sat transfixed. Even Olaf pops in to say hello.
6. ‘It’s fun and enjoyable for the whole family. There’s cool light-up merch too!’ – James, 12 years

Even your too-cool-for-school early teen will love this show, due to the sheer talent of the skaters and the ingenuity of the sets and costumes. It’s hard not to be impressed by their tricks, speed, and flexibility. And what’s a Disney movie without music? All of us found ourselves singing along to some of our favourites!
Pro tips:
- The food is expensive – best to eat before you come!
- The venue is accessible to enter, however, it’s harder to climb the steeper stairs down to the bottom sections, so be mindful of where you sit if you have family members with mobility issues.
- The merch is adorable but also pricey, so get the kids to save up their pocket money if they want to splash out on a light-up wand or Maui fish hook! (from $32).
- Keep an eye out for our interview with Anna and Prince Charming for a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of a Disney on Ice skater!
