With the high cost of car ownership in Singapore, many of us use public transport and taxis to get around with our children. Kid wrangling can be hard at the best of times, let alone when you have to get on a bus with a baby or toddler – or wake a sleeping baby and fold up your pushchair with one hand. And don’t even get us started on flying with kids, that’s a whole other ball game. Choosing the perfect pram to ease your travelling woes is a parenting challenge as hard as making sure your child is safe in a taxi. We’re here to take some of the sweat out of the buggy selection process, to get you zipping about sooner. Here’s our top lightweight, foldable travel strollers perfect for your newborn or toddler!
GB Pockit Stroller
The most compact and feather-light stroller in the world is the aptly named GB Pockit Stroller. It’s a lightweight 4.9kg and only measures 30 x 18 x 35 cm when folded! When in action on city streets you can push with one-hand while holding your latte (we all know coffee holders are one of the baby items you don’t need to buy). When you’re ready to go on that next family holiday, this pram can be folded in two easy steps and popped in your handbag. It’s also self-standing when folded, making it easy to prop next to the table when out at your local cafe. We love this stroller!

Another stellar super-light pram we’ve got our eyes on is the Babyzen Yoyo. Weighing 6kg and measuring 52 x 44 x 18 cm when folded, it’s small enough to fit snugly into an overhead cabin locker. It’s suitable for use from birth, and is parent-facing and machine-washable for the inevitable baby and toddler spills. Here’s the best part: Push and fold with one hand! Now if that won’t have you channeling Zen vibes, nothing will.

It’s no secret we love Stokke here at HoneyKids HQ. Of course this fab brand carries a compact city pram to suit the urban parent – the Stokke Scoot! Weighing in at 11.8kg with lockable swivel wheels, it’s easy to manoeuvre on bustling Singapore streets. We like the oversized canopy that offers UPF50+ protection for soft baby skin and the adjustable rotation handle. Folds up in seconds. Pure class.

We know from personal experience that the Maclaren Quest is the perfect buggy to keep in the car for that quick trip to the shops. We’re always travelling with a kid-entourage, and this pram wins points for being super-easy to open, close and use (my five year old is chief pram-pusher). Recline the seat with one click of the hand when your kiddo needs some shut-eye. The only downside to mention is that the dual handles means the Maclaren can’t be pushed single handedly. But, this is outweighed by the fact it is 5kg light.

Baby Jogger City Mini
Towards the bigger end of the compact pram market (at 7.6kg) is the Baby Jogger City Mini. The BEST feature of this nimble pram is the quick-fold technology – all you have to do is lift a strap with one hand and it folds itself. Voila! We’re also fans of the hand-operated brake and the auto-lock for easy storage. Despite the name, it’s not a jogging pram, so no need to feel guilty about wearing activewear for no reason.

Aprica Magical Air
Don’t be fooled by the Aprica Magical Air’s small frame. It may only weigh 2.9kg, but can carry up to five times its weight (15kg). Suitable for little ones from seven months up to three years old, the Magical Air is a no frills, no fuss stroller with multi reclining positions and a one-hand fold.

Combi F2 Plus
Weighing 3.9kg, this sleek stroller from Combi is aptly named the featherlight and can hold up to 15kg. The breathable mesh seat, reclining backrest and stroller canopy will ensure your little one has a comfy ride. While it may not be the most spacious stroller in the market, its lightweight, one-hand compact fold and one-handed steering definitely makes for easy travelling.

Iris M-Air Cybex
The Iris M-Air Cybex is a 3-in-1 system that can fit an infant car seat, toddler seat or carrycot, plus it has plenty of space below to stash extra stuff. The little one can snooze on-the-go with the reversible and reclinable seat, and the pram can be folded to half its size and left in a free-standing position for easy transport or storage. Smaller and thinner wheels make it easy to manoeuvre through narrow streets, while the all-wheel suspension ensures a smooth ride. It’s also made from high-quality rubber wheels which promise to never puncture or flatten.
Price: From $799 (infant car seat and carrycot not included), buy from Mothercare
Joie PACT LITE
Equipped with a handy shoulder strap, the pact lite (5.5kg) is suitable for newborns up to 15kg. Its flat reclining seat and bumper bar allows little ones to catch some z’s in a comfy and safe ride. Frequent fliers will love the one-hand compact trifold (54 x 26cm when folded), plus it comes with a full-size shopping basket under the seat. Score!

Maxi-Cosi Maxi-Taxi Stroller Frame
This versatile, lightweight stroller frame is the perfect travel companion as it can seamlessly transfer babies from their Maxi Cosi car seat straight to the stroller. The infant car seat (sold separately) can be used in any car or taxi around the world without needing additional adaptors, so you know your little one will travel safe and snug always. Once they grow up, you can switch to the toddler seat. Simple and quick to fold and unfold, the Maxi-Taxi stroller frame stores easily in any boot or can stand upright on the bus. Bonus points for the extra large storage basket. Comes in handy for the occasional grocery run.
