The benefits of music on the developing brain have long been known, but if you were not playing Beethoven to your child in utero, it’s not too late! You can still instill a love for music (and harness their propensity to bang and crash) now that they’re here. There are so many music classes for kids in Singapore that you can almost start jamming the day after your baby is home from hospital.
From the traditional Yamaha Music School, through to new-age movement and music classes for newborns, there is literally a class to suit every age and ability. Whether you’re a self-confessed tiger mum raising a child prodigy or just looking for some mother-child social activity to get you out of the house, here’s a list of some of the many classes to get your little one’s ten tiny fingers (and toes) twinkling.
Tea & Tots
Tea & Tots is an adult-accompanied playgroup for bubs aged 8-18 months. The sessions are jammed-packed with activities to keep those little minds occupied. Junior will get his daily fill of music and movement, as well as circle time, magical stories, sensorial play, and arts & crafts all in a 75-minute class. Not only will you get to join your little one as they explore and play with other babies, you’ll get to pick up tips on play-based learning all while enjoying some afternoon tea and snacks with fellow parents.

Musical Monkeys pitch their “non-walkers” programme at parents who, let’s face it, are the ones to sing the songs, do the dancing, and really want to just hang out with other sleep-deprived parents. Once new friendships have been established, your kids can then take their turn moving to the beat and playing instruments with their new friends. There are programmes for children aged zero to three years and two to five years. There’s even seasonal festive events for kids to get hands-on exposure to music from other cultures.
