Besides Disney, Pokémon is another media mix franchise that everyone loves. The Japanese brand, an abbreviation for Pocket Monsters, was created in 1996. The franchise began as a video game before branching into other media. Fun fact: currently, there are over 900 Pokémon species. With so much Pokémon merch available, where does one start? We’ve compiled this guide on where you can catch ‘em all in Singapore.
Where to catch Pokémon in Singapore
Everyone’s top go-to fast food restaurant in Singapore has gone ga-ga for all things Pokémon this month! Fans should look out for three different Poké-motions (Pokémon promotions, get it? Ha!). Two Pokémon accessories are released as part of the Happy Meal each week; this promotion ends on 21 September. The Pokémon-themed packaging on the McPepper, Pulut Hitam Pie, and Teh C Frappe is available for a limited run.
We’re sure you’ve seen the queue when the Pikachu carrier was released. You can try your luck and see if this adorable merch is still available – according to the website, the carrier is available till 21 September. Otherwise, you can look for it on Carousell (beware of scalpers!). The carrier comes with a random Pokémon glossy card.
Why catch a flight on a regular aeroplane when you can take off on the Pikachu Jet? In celebration of Scoot’s 10th anniversary, the carrier has introduced the Pokémon Air Adventures, which features exclusive livery and themed in-flight experience. You can also purchase original Scoot x Pokémon merchandise. Flights depart from Singapore to Tokyo and Seoul bi-monthly; get the flight info here.
If you’re required to wear prescription glasses but still want to look cool, Owndays has just the thing. The Japanese brand recently released its range of stylish spectacle frames that feature eight legendary Pokémon characters. We love the little details adorning each frame – the Squirtle version has two turtle-shell tessellations on each temple. How cool is that! If you’re a Pikachu fan, there are two awesome frames to choose from. Or why not just get them both? Catch ’em all! Each purchase comes with a reusable bag, a crossbody, a spectacle pouch, and a spectacle cloth.
You know what they say about shoes… if it fits, wear them! Footwear company Skechers has launched its newest Foamies collection that prominently features five Pokémon characters. Choose to have Pikachu, Eevee, Jigglypuff, Charizard, or Snorlax on your feet as you go about your day. Psst, purchase any two pairs at selected Skechers stores and get a free Pokémon dry bag.
5. Pokémon Go at Gardens by the Bay
To the folks who still play Pokémon Go, listen up: Singapore has been chosen as the next location for the Pokémon Go Safari Zone! What’s Safari Zone? It’s a place where Pokémon trainers can capture rare Pokémon. You’ll be able to encounter Maractus, a Shiny Purrloin, and other Pokémon in the wild. The event, part of a special Pikachu weekend, will be held at Gardens by the Bay from 18 to 20 November.
Speaking of Pikachu, the Pokémon will be making an appearance – in a purple floral tee, no less – throughout the island for a year, starting in November. Cute!
We can’t talk about Pokémon in Singapore and not mention Uniqlo. There’s nothing more iconic than their collaboration under the UT collection. Show your love for Pokémon by wearing the Pokémon Meets Artist designs. The little people can become Pokémon Professors by donning this super kawaii series.
7. Pilot Pen
Prefer penning (pun intended, I guess) things down instead of typing them out? Then you’re in luck! Pilot’s Juice Up Gel Pen series has incorporated first-generation Pokémon characters into its writing instruments. These designs feature Pikachu, Eevee, Squirtle, Snorlax, Bulbasaur, and Charmander on the pen barrels and are exclusive to Singapore. The rubber grip signifies the pen’s ink colour, so you won’t have to scribble randomly to determine which colour you choose. All four stationeries are available at all leading bookstores in Singapore.
Poké-mania is practically everywhere, and that apparently includes gaming chairs. The homegrown brand launched its own Pokémon collection, with two iconic characters emblazoned on the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 chairs. These gaming chairs come in two sizes and are designed to provide the best support for you during any adventure and battle.
9. Bath Bomb Flings
If you have a bathtub at home or are planning a soak during your staycay, get your bath bombs from Bath Bomb Flings. This local company is founded by two former mental health sector workers, who craft their products with a hopeful message for customers. The bath bombs are handmade daily upon order, which means maximum freshness when you receive them. You can go one step further by customising your bath bombs. Pikachu bath bombs, anyone?
Are you ready to catch ‘em all? Good luck!
