Did someone say dog cruise?! HoneyKids teammate, Dawn, set sail with her family and pooch, Sky, to see what was in store aboard the Tallship. From luxury five-course dining to sunset views, and don't forget the barkday cakes...
You might be familiar with the Tall Ship, aka The Royal Albatross, located in Sentosa. You might’ve even heard about their insanely popular Sunset Dinner Cruises – but did you know about the furkid edition? Yep, dogs are more than catered for here! And not only that, it’s actually the first company in the world to organise a dedicated dog cruise onboard a luxury tall ship. Here’s a sneak peek into what to expect as part of the latest pet-friendly pawsome attraction in Singapore…
HONEYKIDS ASIA REVIEW: Pawfect Sunset Dinner Cruise in Singapore
Let’s be clear; this isn’t your run of the mill kind of dog cruise. Nope, if you’re going to treat the dogs in your lives, it’s best to do it properly, and the Tall Ship team agrees. That’s why there’s no holding back here with gourmet menus for both dogs and humans across a range of special packages. The All Dogs Edition includes two and a half hour cruise, a welcome mocktail, a five-course dinner (with a dedicated three-course option for the pooch), and a surprise dog goodie bag by Perromart! Or, if you’re celebrating a special occasion (like a Barkday), then how about a seven-course dinner, complimentary pup cake, and not to mention a surprise barkday gift! Already sounds a million times better than our own bday plans!
All aboard! Here’s what to expect…
Arrival and boarding
The Pawfect Sunset Dinner Cruise sets sail from Sentosa, and finding the yacht is pretty easy; for starters, it’s huge! You can walk along the front (past the aquarium) at Resorts World Sentosa, and you can’t miss the historic yacht. You’ll need to remove your shoes before boarding (which is customary on a lot of yachts to protect the floor), and then you can make your way onto the deck.
Exploring the decks
There are three decks to explore – upper, main and lower. The Upper Deck is really spacious outside and the best place to be for the views (more on that later!). It also has its own bar and a flying seat that extends out over the sea! The Main Deck consists of the Grand Salon, a fully air-conditioned lounge area, and the Breezeway Lounge, which is covered, but opens from the sides, so you still get the views.
Our top tip for finding the pawfect seat…
We opted to sit on the upper deck and got a table in the middle, mainly because it was more spacious for Sky (he’s a big dog!). It also meant we could catch the fantastic views, plus socialise with the other guests – human and canine. If you’ve got a smaller dog, you can pretty much sit anywhere – there are even high chairs (we kid you not), so all sizes are catered for. From the word go, the staff were super helpful, providing a welcome drink for the kids and us, and of course, some water for Sky!
Setting sail – sunset views and doggy companions
The cruise is approximately two and a half hours, and during that time, you’ll make a leisurely loop around Sentosa before docking back at Resorts World Sentosa. Although you’re not travelling great distances, you get awesome views from all sides. Besides Sentosa, you can also spot Keppel Bay and the impressive Reflections condo, Labrador Park, the southern islands, and of course, the iconic city view towards the end of the trip when you’re returning back to RWS Sentosa.
The timing of the cruise is perfect as you’re in a prime location for sunset, so you’ll get some great shots. Pretty much everyone was snapping away!
The food – the humans
It’s not just the views that are impressive; the food is definitely a huge plus of the trip! For the humans, there’s a feast to behold! We had the five-course menu with two delish main courses to pick from – Baked Chilean Seabass with Seafood Bisque and Sous Vide Tender Chicken Breast with Miso Veloute. There are even wine pairings available. If you really want to push the boat out, you can upgrade to the seven-course menu (we spotted oysters!).
and the human kids…
And what about the human kids? We probably shouldn’t neglect them (do so at your peril when it comes to food). Well, the good news is that they are well catered for too, with sausage and mash or fish and chips, and then brownies and ice cream!
What’s on the menu for the furkids?
We’ll be honest; we were pretty speechless when we got the doggie menu for Sky. There were four choices to select from in advance. From Petcubes limited edition Nasi Lemak to Chicken Delight (fresh chicken meat blended with pumpkin, spinach, carrots, organic sea kelp, acai berries, spirulina and topped with pumpkin puree, no less!). Or if your pup is more of a beef or duck fan, that’s on the menu too. Make sure they save room for the Frosty Pawlato by Twice Young, an all-natural human-grade ice cream made with organic New Zealand coconut ice cream. It’s fair to say your dog is in for a treat!
A special occasion calls for a special celebration…
It had just been Sky’s birthday, and to celebrate, he got an extra big fuss and even a pup birthday cake included in the meal (check out the Barkday package for the deets!).
Our overall verdict…
We were big fans! This should be really high on your list if you want to treat ALL the kids. It’s definitely one for a special occasion (it’s not cheap, but we think it’s more than worth it for a celebration). The human kids loved it too, although we think it’s probably better for older kids to really make the most of it (especially as it’s in the evening, so a bit after bedtime for littlies).
And most importantly – Sky’s verdict on the dog cruise…
The photos show that this was, without doubt, a big paws up from our doggie reviewer, Sky. The fave was definitely the food, closely followed by all the other doggy chums Sky got to meet along the way – it was quite the birthday party, we’re not sure how we’re going to top it next year…!
