The Grange Institution has done it again, clinching silver as Sustainable International School of the Year for its environmental initiatives!
When it comes to sustainability in education, The Grange Institution is one of the first international schools that comes to mind. This is a school that incorporates sustainability into its curriculum and infrastructure. At the same time, it empowers students to take charge and play a part in creating a better, sustainable world. It comes as no surprise that The Grange won silver in the Sustainable International School of the Year category in our Singapore Education Awards 2023!
What makes The Grange Institution a sustainable international school?
While the school clinched silver in our inaugural Sustainable International School of the Year category, The Grange’s efforts were well recognised by the judges in the past two years. After all, the school was a gold winner for Best Environmental Initiative for two years in a row from 2021 till 2022.
With a campus that’s located alongside Singapore’s Green Belt (in Yio Chu Kang area), The Grange has the perfect place to nurture a deep love for nature among its ‘Grange Kids’. A holistic understanding of sustainability is also fostered through its long-running Green Granger initiative, where students play a part in preserving the green spaces on campus.
What’s more, The Grange is the founding member (and the first school in Singapore) of The Alliance for Sustainable Schools (TASS). This is a non-profit global association that’s committed to expedite the shift towards a sustainable future. It’s also the first school within TASS to have primary-aged students as ambassadors.
The school’s latest initiative, ‘Grow with The Grange’, sees it collaborating with Green Steps to plant a tree for every student. To date, a total of 85 trees have been planted along the Sumatran coast, offsetting 1,870kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The Grange is also creating new green zones – Explore Zone and Grow Zone – on campus, in consultation with Singapore’s National Parks to support the Singapore Green Plan 2030.
Why we love The Grange Institution
We love a school that not only teaches, but encourages its students to participate in sustainable efforts. The Grange does this and more, even empowering students to be agents of change by making them ambassadors for TASS. This goes to show that you’re never too young to make a difference!
Well done, The Grange Institution!
