Besides championing the Education for Sustainable Development movement by the United Nations, here's why The Grange earned this prestigious award...
In a time when so many of us are cooped up indoors, and we’re all glued to our devices more than ever, more and more parents are looking for a top-notch education that takes place both inside and outside the classroom. And that’s before we mention the growing importance to appreciate and protect the environment too. So, in this year’s Singapore Education Awards 2021, one of the most honourable awards – the Best Environmental Initiative 2020/2021 – was given to The Grange International School. On top of delivering one of the best educational facilities in Singapore, The Grange has also been going above and beyond to promote the importance of sustainability, eco-friendly ethics and green spaces. It’s been empowering students to be agents of change and going one step further in creating a better, more sustainable world.
Why The Grange International School won Best Environmental Initiative 2020/2021
This year, The Grange introduced the ‘Green Granger’ initiative – a part of its science programme that supports their ‘Cre8tors-in-Action’ educational philosophy. This multi-prong initiative gives young learners opportunities to work in various parts of their lush three-acre eco-garden. It ties in with the ‘Singapore Green Plan 2030’ and aims to develop a strong awareness of sustainability and global issues, like climate change, among its students. Besides this green initiative, The Grange has also integrated an eco-garden and farm into its outdoor play area. With its Food Forest and Garden-to-Table project, students can now grow and harvest organic vegetables and fruits!
More reasons why we love The Grange International School
The Grange truly cares about everyone’s health and well-being – for starters, fresh produce is harvested and shared with the school community. During school holidays, it even shares fresh produce with the neighbouring elderly care centre. Many families have shared photos and recipes of their home-cooked meals using the schools’ produce. We also love hearing about all of The Grange’s exciting future plans! Besides a new programme – the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Eco-School and Forest Schools Programme – it’s also planning on expanding the successful ‘Green Granger’ initiative, and is even forging a future partnership with charitable organisations to donate harvests to the needy. Two green thumbs up from us!
And psst! Not only is The Grange International School a green champion in this year’s Singapore Education Awards 2021, it was also crowned a Silver Winner in the Entrepreneurship in Education award!
Way to go The Grange!
