More than just a new building on campus, the Tanglin Centenary Building comes with facilities that will help Tanglin Trust School’s students flourish as individuals.
Tanglin Trust School officially unveiled its new campus development – the Tanglin Centenary Building – in January 2023. This 11-storey building, which increases the school’s footprint by almost 25 percent, is equipped with an array of state-of-the-art facilities, with spaces that are purposefully designed with the involvement of the school’s department heads. We’re talking about amazing sports facilities, new music spaces with professional-grade equipment, new learning and activity spaces for its Infant School, as well as a newly established Institute @ Tanglin.
We take a closer look at how these new spaces and facilities will benefit the school community in terms of “physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth”, as described by Tanglin’s CEO Craig Considine.
State-of-the-art facilities to complement Tanglin’s vibrant sports culture
Sports is an element that’s deeply embedded in Tanglin’s school culture. The school has a diverse and inclusive sports programme for all its students, from the youngest child in its Infant School to its most senior students. Tanglin’s sports offerings include all-time favourites like Rugby and Netball, to the mentally and physically stimulating rock climbing activity.
It comes as no surprise then that the Tanglin Centenary Building has really exciting sports facilities to cater to its active community. This includes a world-class Aquatic Centre that comes with a huge 50m Olympic length swimming pool, complete with a lightning-proof canopy so students can access the pool no matter the weather. There’s also a bespoke climbing wall that’s designed by Climbing World Championship’s wall makers. Last but not least, gymnasts now have access to using the building’s Olympic-standard Gymnastics Centre. Tanglin’s new Gymnastics Centre features a large landing pit, which makes it one of the few in Singapore that is accessible to gymnasts of all ability levels.
Symphony-size music spaces with concert-ready grand pianos
The Tanglin Centenary Building has two floors dedicated to music-learning. These floors have teaching and practice rooms, a recording studio, a 100-person rehearsal hall, and 60-person recital room. On top of professional music equipment, the building also houses not one, but three brand new Fazioli Grand Pianos – one of the finest piano manufacturers in the world.
Dedicated spaces and facilities for Tanglin’s Infant School
Described as an “inspiring school” by Lead British Schools Overseas Inspector, Julia Coop, Tanglin’s Infant School will continue to inspire children through its new Infant spaces in the Tanglin Centenary Building. These spaces – including a dining hall, music classrooms, and multipurpose halls – are designed with warm and welcoming colours for the little ones. Parents will be happy to know that they have the chance to catch a performance or two by their children in the new music classrooms, which are large enough to be used as small performance halls.
Parents are not forgotten in the creation of the Tanglin Centenary Building
Tanglin recognises parents are an integral part of its school community. As such, the new building is also built with facilities just for parents! There are viewing galleries at the sport facilities levels, where parents can watch their children train in the pool and the gymnastics centre. But that’s not all, parents can relax and connect with one another at the spacious café and lounge areas. There’s even a co-working space just for parents to get some work done – and even attend meetings – while waiting for their children.
The building houses a new forum that inspires and prepares students to be future leaders
The Tanglin Centenary Building is home to the school’s newly established Institute @ Tanglin, a forum that inspires, challenges, and prepares its students for the future. The Institute works with external collaborators, such as private corporations and individuals, to provide Tanglin’s students with enriching learning programmes. As of today, the Institute @ Tanglin has hosted high-profile personalities like former Olympian David Faulkner MBE OLY and former England cricket captain Adam Hollioake who gave inspiring talks to its school community. We’re told that the Institute has been working on a student entrepreneurship programme with a major bank too!
A Continuous Professional Development Centre just for Tanglin’s staff
What’s a school without its staff and teaching faculty? Tanglin values the contribution and personal development of its staff, which is why it now has a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Centre in the Tanglin Centenary Building. It comprises versatile spaces for training, seminars, and a quiet work room. The CPD Centre is conveniently located on the same floor as Institute @ Tanglin to provide its staff with close collaboration opportunities with industry experts and thought leaders.
