An aquatics centre, climbing wall, gymnastics centre and an athletics development gym - Tanglin Trust School will be welcoming a ‘new kid’ into their midst in 2022!
Tanglin Trust School’s students and their parents will soon be greeted by a spanking new building with state-of-the-art sports facilities as they enter the school through Gate C. Affectionately called the “Gate C development” by the Tanglin community, this 11-storey building is slated to be ready by the next academic year. It will be equipped with a variety of spaces that will support and enrich every student’s growth at Tanglin.
Here’s a sneak peek of what we can look forward to at Tanglin’s new Gate C building…
1. Aquatics centre with Olympic-length swimming pool
Great news for those with kids who love the water! The new building will house an aquatics centre that is equipped with a covered 50m Olympic-length swimming pool, allowing students to enjoy a diverse range of water sports such as water polo. This new facility will also greatly benefit those in the school’s competitive swimming programme – the Merlions – as they’ll be able to train come rain or shine. The aquatics centre comes with a viewing gallery too, so parents can come and watch their children practise and cheer them on!
2. Scaling new heights with a bespoke climbing wall
Tanglin’s students will be excited to know that they’ll be getting a climbing spot that’s designed and made by the Climbing World Championships wall maker, Walltopia. This new 15m wall comes with two unique features: its modern, flat surface; as well as a belay bar on the top. These features enable students to learn and practise both lead climbing and speed climbing.
3. 1,300sqm gymnastics centre
Gymnastics is one of the most popular sports at Tanglin with hundreds of students taking part in both recreational and competitive gymnastics. The new gymnastics centre was custom designed to provide some of the best gymnastics facilities in Singapore. This new centre also features a range of new areas (e.g., warm up space, a foam pit) as well as Olympic standard equipment for gymnasts to train with. The new facility will allow Tanglin’s gymnasts to train and perform at higher levels. Similar to the aquatics centre, parents can watch their children practise from the viewing gallery.
4. Athletics development gym
Designed to cater to students from ages three to 18, this cool gym comes with cargo nets, monkey swings, slacklines, and freestyle movement apparatus for students to practise in a safe environment as they develop into confident and adaptable movers. There’s also a dedicated strength-training area, which comes with a customised rig and the latest cardiorespiratory equipment. Aspiring athletes can make good use of the 20m indoor running track to train as well.
Of course, these are only some of the main highlights of the Gate C project. We’re told that there’s even more in store, and these new facilities are created not only for students, but for their families, as well as the whole Tanglin community.
You can keep up-to-date with the new Gate C project on Tanglin’s website.
