National Day 2019 in Singapore, SG54, is edging closer (the earth-shattering noise of the jet fighters buzzing over town were probably a hint…) and if you haven’t bagged tickets for the most colourful day of the year, you’ll want to catch the celebrations at a practice run! There are plenty of rehearsals happening, so head into town on one of the following dates to watch the planes and helicopters and catch the fireworks. This year is Singapore’s Bicentennial, so the National Day Parade (NDP) is happening at Padang, outside the National Gallery, where many key events in Singapore’s history were held. It will be a special NDP that will reflect how far we have come and our common aspirations for Singapore. Hot tip: Head out for a family-friendly dinner around Raffles City, Esplanade or even Boat Quay to see the sky light up around 8.10pm on rehearsal days.
National Day rehearsal dates
Head into town to watch the skies from about 6pm to 9.30pm on the following dates:
6 July 2019 (rehearsal 1)
13 July 2019 (rehearsal 2)
20 July 2019 (rehearsal 3)
27 July 2019 (preview 1)
3 August 2019 (preview 2)
This year’s theme song
It’s not National Day without the yearly theme song. This year, instead of a new song, we have a medley of all the NDP oldies (but goodies): Dick Lee’s Our Singapore. So before you head down to a rehearsal, play this on a loop to really get the full impact of Singapore’s past NDPs for Singapore’s Bicentennial SG54 celebration.
