We got a sneak peek of Jewel Changi Airport and yep, the hype is definitely real...
It’s the same old story…heading to Changi Airport for a flight and passing by the huge, silvery dome that promises to be open in April 2019, and wanting it to be April 2019 so bad. Guess what folks, the wait is over and Jewel Changi Airport is flinging open its doors to the public on 17 April! We were lucky enough to score some invites to take a sneak peek of Jewel and after our visit, we can safely say that Jewel Changi Airport definitely lives up to its name…we know where we’re taking the kids during the school holidays!
Because it’s the most insta-worthy mall everrrr
Have you ever been to a mall with a giant waterfall in the centre? Neither had we. Jewel’s HSBC Rain Vortex is definitely an amazing work of architecture with water cascading from a jaw-dropping height of 40 metres – the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. The best part? It turns into a mesmerising light and sound show, running from 8.30pm – 12.30am daily, at hourly intervals. Here’s a helpful hint: the best views are at the Level 2 Viewing Deck, and this is probably the most Instagrammable spot in the mall.
There’s also a multi-sensory, utterly cool walking trail, the Shiseido Forest Valley, which looks pretty damn awesome, especially at night. Head over to the West Trail where you’ll spot trees lit up in an explosion of colours.
When you’re walking around in Jewel, look up and you’ll see mini works of art. We’re talking shimmering crystal clouds and massive glass panels that let the beautiful Singapore sunshine in. Come night time, you’ll see stars and all the lights from the nearby terminals and passing airplanes.
All. The. Food
If you can’t get enough of the lush, jungley vibe of Jewel, head over to Level 5 for some nom-worthy bites (including Britain’s Burger & Lobster… yasss) and cool cocktails. One of our personal faves? The Tiger Street Lab. If you’re around during happy hour (or not, whatever – we won’t judge you), grab a seat under the foliage and a couple of cold ones… you’ll definitely need it after all that shopping.
And if you’ve got a big A&W shaped hole in your heart like we do, you’ll be glad to know that Jewel’s got its own branch at B2. Curly fries, fried chicken and root beer floats, here we come! Don’t mind queueing? Swing by the Shake Shack: burgers are definitely worth the wait even if the service wasn’t the best when we tried it.
Shop till ‘ya drop
We’re glad we brought our credit cards because the shopping selection at Jewel is just insane. It’s got an entire store dedicated to Pokemon, HoneyKids’ faves Seed Heritage, In Good Company and The Better Toy Store, and also an actual Carter’s store, just in case we need to stock up on onesies and PJs. It’s also got a Times Junior: Times Bookstore’s first store dedicated to little ones! And don’t forget to swing by Tokyu Hands and MUJI before satisfying your sweet tooth over at Laderach Chocolatier Suisse: it’s FrischSchoggi slabs are irresistible.
