By switching to eco-friendly alternatives to baby wipes, we can all do our bit to rid the world of mountains of unnecessary waste. Think biodegradable bamboo wipes and washable wipes too!
Did you know that 93% of blocked sewage pipes are caused by the not-so-humble baby wipe? This shocking fact alone should have us all considering alternatives, especially when taking into consideration that most wet wipes still contain non-biodegradable plastic. And we all know what that’s doing for the marine life and Mother Earth in general… So what can we do to help rid the planet of toppling towers of discarded wipes? Here are some alternatives to try in a quest to rid the world of unnecessary disposable wipes.
Eco-friendly alternatives to baby wipes in Singapore
1. Washable wipes
Head over to UK site Cheeky Wipes for a great range of biodegradable washable cloth baby wipes, all of which contain water and essential oils to keep baby’s bottom super soft, and the planet happy. Made of natural, soft terry-towelling, these beauts can be popped into the washing machine to be used again and again. International delivery is available to Singapore, so get together with your mum friends and put in an order. It also stocks period pants, reusable make-up removing cloths and lots of other nifty eco-friendly products.
2. Bamboo wet wipes
Made from bamboo cloth that biodegrades in just 14 days, Gaia Natural Baby Bamboo Baby Wipes contain natural, organic extracts that not only gently clean up a mucky bubba, but are also free from nasty petrochemicals, soaps, sulphates and paraben preservatives. Perfect not just for the planet, but for baby’s delicate skin too. Win win.
3. Bamboo dry wipes
Totally biodegradable bamboo fibre and free from all nasties, the CannyMum Bamboo Dry Wipes are an eco-friendly pick that are especially great when youβre busy wrestling with a wriggling baby. These bad boys are way bigger than a conventional wipe and come on a tear-off roll containing 200 of the genius creations that also double up as nappy liners. Just add good ol’ fashioned water to turn them from a dry wipe to a wet wipe. Sadly we’ve not been able to find a stockist in Singapore, but after a lot of scouring of the World Wide Web, we’re pleased to say you don’t have to move to the UK to buy them after all as you can get them fromΒ Amazon with shipping to Singapore.
4. Organic cotton balls

When we were small, chances are our own mums cleaned us up with cotton wool (and moved on to the old spit on a tissue clean up method when we were a bit older: bleugh). But while bog standard cotton wool is no better for the environment than a mountain of baby wipes, the organic types with a dash of water work a treat. We like Simply Gentle Organic Cotton Wool Balls which are made of natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre. The brand uses cotton grown without the use of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, which helps avoid greenhouse gases, while also helping to prevent the poisoning of wildlife and rivers.
The extra good news? You can get them in an actual store (‘cos who doesn’t like an actual, physical browse from time to time?). Head over to the Super Nature Store in Forum The Shopping Mall to stock up on these and other eco-friendly goodies.
5. Organic, biodegradable wipes
These nifty little numbers are 100% biodegradable and made using materials from sustainable forests in Europe. Chlorine-free, hypoallergenic and containing ingredients including organic aloe vera, orange blossom and organic grapefruit seed. Bubba’s bottom will be as soft as a peach while being eco-friendly at the same time. Beaming Baby Certified Organic Baby Wipes Fragrance Free are totally the way to go.
