Time for some good old-fashioned Christmas entertainment at the theatre with our favourite characters, feel-good plays, and music galore!
From learning the scale using “Do-Rei-Mi” to honking our way through “Edelweiss” on our recorders, we all loved theatre even before we knew it was a thing. Don’t know about you, but our first theatre performance was Cats, and we can still remember every show tune! So in the lead-up to Christmas, how about treating your small people to a spectacular music or stage performance in Singapore that will give the whole fam the warm and fuzzies? Warning: shows may feature catchy tunes your kids will be singing aloud for YEARS.

1. A Christmas pantomime! Catch Pinocchio at Wild Rice this November – December
In this cheekily on-the-nose musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale, Wild Rice brings one of the world’s most beloved characters to the Singapore stage. Pinocchio is a brand-new, original musical written by Thomas Lim, with lyrics by Joel Tan and music by Julian Wong, performed by a stellar cast, including the adorable First Stage Kids
Based on the beloved fairytale about the little wooden puppet Pinocchio, crafted with loving care by Geppetto – a kind, humble carpenter who has always dreamt of becoming a father. With a wish and a touch of fairy magic, Pinocchio springs to life… but there are some strings attached! A hilarious and heartwarming celebration of family, friendship and the importance of being true to yourself, Pinocchio is the perfect holiday treat for you and your loved ones. Wood we lie to you?

2. Ahh Alien!
We love a theatre production with an important underlying message, and what message is better than kindness at Christmas? This interactive, family-friendly production about the importance of kindness, sees Oscar the Alien set out to make new friends, having fun and learning new things along the way. The performance also features a post-production workshop where children will get to make a take-home craft!

3. Everyone’s favourite, The Sound of Music
Tickets are selling fast for this beloved musical, coming to Sands Theatre in November. Kids in Singapore were invited to audition for the roles of the Von Trapp children, so you may see some familiar faces on the stage!

4. The Nutcracker Ballet performances in November and December
Got a little ballet-loving cutie in your household? This classic story of a magical evening one night before Christmas is being performed by two ballet troupes in Singapore! The Cheng Ballet Academy is performing The Nutcracker this November at NUS, and Singapore Ballet will be performing the same at Esplanade Theatre in December. Don’t miss your chance to see this stunning ballet, perfect for a pre-Christmas treat!

5. Live Christmas performances at Gardens by the Bay and Christmas Wonderland
Celebrate Christmas with friends from Nordic Countries on Nordic Day! Meet the beloved Santa Claus from Rovaniemi, who is visiting Singapore in person. Tell him your wishes this Christmas at a special Santa Meet & Greet, and deliver your Christmas letter to Santa Claus. There will be special performances and jazzy Christmas music from the Norwegian Inderberg Trio and the St Lucia Choir. There are also Christmas craft activities happening across December – check the Gardens by the Bay website for timings and more details.

6. Pre-Christmas concert magic: Catch Disney in Concert, A Magical Celebration
This December, Disney in Concert is back for one night only with “A Magical Celebration”! Experience wonderful musical pieces featuring Disney’s iconic movies as a backdrop with a 46-piece orchestra. Audiences will be transported to a whole new world as the concert brings beloved stories and characters to life through musical performances synchronised to the original movie clips.
Be transported on an enchanting journey as we awaken a little mermaid who longs to be human, a brave warrior who strives to bring honour to her family, sisters warming a frozen relationship and many more!

7. Singapore Symphony Orchestra Christmas Fundraising Concert
The voices of the Singapore Symphony Choruses make a welcome return to the popular SSO Christmas Concerts! Join the SSO in a heartwarming family of joyful tunes from Handel’s Messiah to Pachelbel’s heavenly Canon, ending with a newly arranged Christmas sing-along in Baroque style!
