This is also the second year that Chatsworth International School brought home the gold award for the School Where Everybody Knows Your Name category.
Warm and welcoming school environment – check. Strong International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum – check. It’s no wonder Chatsworth International School won gold in both the School Where Everybody Knows Your Name and The Curriculum Awards – IB categories in our Singapore Education Awards 2023!
In fact, Chatsworth has won gold for School Where Everybody Knows Your Name two years in a row. It’s also the inaugural gold winner for the curriculum category which recognises the best IB schools in the country.
What makes Chatsworth a welcoming and close-knit school
A parent once shared that the main reason she keeps her children at Chatsworth is because it’s a school where every teacher knows every student. “All the subject teachers understand the potential of each child and know them on a personal level. This is something that’s not possible in a school with big student numbers in each grade,” Azzah Atique explained. It’s also worth mentioning that the notion where everybody knows your name doesn’t just apply to students only, but the housekeeping and maintenance staff who are also part of Chatsworth’s community.
So how does Chatsworth create a school environment that’s welcoming? Firstly, the school ensures there’s a strong collaboration within and across its primary and secondary sections through activities like Book Week, as well as regular visits to student exhibitions and works between schools. Secondary school students and parents volunteer to read to younger ones during Book Week; while primary teachers would bring their students to celebrate works of their older peers. The school leadership teams are always on gate and busy duty every day of the school year too. They welcome students and parents as they start and end their school day, thus fostering a strong sense of community among all. As for the staff, social events are organised, and even birthdays are remembered.
What makes Chatsworth a top IB school
Chatsworth’s holistic IB curriculum is well recognised in Singapore among parents and industry experts. The school has been dubbed the “best IB school” by other organisations as well. Being one of the seven full IB schools in the country, Chatsworth has shown that it’s fully committed to delivering the goals of an IB education in the best way possible through a team of highly qualified and internationally experienced educators. These educators are trained in the IB. Student agency takes centre stage here, where students are empowered to take ownership of their learning. They are provided with ample opportunities to explore and challenge themselves. Service learning is also a core component in Chatsworth, where students are taught to become caring global citizens.
The results speak for themselves. Its students consistently achieve above global average scores in both the Diploma Programme (DP) exams and Middle Years Programme eAssessment. Class of 2023 achieved a top score of 44 points and school average of 36 points for the DP exams. For the past five years, the school average has been 36 points, with a high of 39 points in 2022.
Why we love Chatsworth
While they may be separate categories, these two awards go hand-in-hand to make Chatsworth a great school. A happy child is a learning child; a welcoming learning environment can directly affect a student’s academic performance. With the school’s initiatives in delivering the IB curriculum in a welcoming environment, it’s not hard to see why Chatsworth’s students are happy and excelling in the classroom and beyond!
Congratulations on the double gold wins, Chatsworth!
