What's Chatsworth International School's winning factor in this year's Singapore Education Awards? Read on to find out!
Suppose you’re looking for top-quality, truly international education in Singapore. In that case, you can never go wrong with Chatsworth International School. It’s no surprise that the school won big at the Singapore Education Awards 2022! Chatsworth emerged triumphant in the Best Innovative Learning Environment, School Where Everybody Knows Your Name, and Entrepreneurship in Education Award categories. On top of that, the school also won Silver in the Student Wellbeing Award. We reckon more space should be set aside in the school’s trophy cabinet!
Why Chatsworth International School won three Gold and one Silver awards
Myriad reasons contribute to the wins. These include the school’s continued investment in providing the best learning environment for students, empowering students to bring their entrepreneurial ideas to reality, and providing a safe space where students can develop academically as well as personally, socially, and emotionally.
Developing global citizens through innovative learning
At Chatsworth, students are empowered and guided to become great thinkers through powerful and memorable learning experiences. It is among the first international schools in Singapore to introduce and run a student-led school news programme, ChatsNews, where students research, shoot, and produce videos to share school news and happenings.
Besides that, the school’s Year 13 students successfully organised the first ever TEDxChatsworthInternationalSchool. Themed “The Meaning of You”, the student-organised event featured interesting speakers like social media influencer Christabel Chua and the world’s second largest Barbie Doll collector Jian Yang. What’s more impressive is that the event was a sold-out despite being marketed and executed by Chatsworth’s students during the pandemic!
Last but not least, K1 students brainstormed ideas on how to help the community during the previous school year. They came up with a supermarket set up within their classrooms where the Chatsworth maintenance team was able to ‘shop’ for real food. These are just three of the many examples of how Chatsworth incorporates creativity and innovation into its inquiry-based curriculum.
A school with a close-knit community
As a mid-sized school with a strong community focus, Chatsworth has earned a reputation for being a school where everyone knows everyone. There’s a strong sense of support and collaboration across the primary and secondary years. Case in point: every year, primary teachers bring their homeroom classes to celebrate their older peers’ work. This spirit applies to the staff members too, where social events are regularly organised in order to foster relationships among staff.
Not only that, the school head, the primary leadership team, and the secondary leadership team are at the school gate every morning and afternoon of the school year greeting students and parents.
Encourage entrepreneurship through various activities
Throughout the school year, Chatsworth students can find opportunities to participate in enterprising programmes and activities that help them develop holistically and become socially responsible people. The school community regularly raises funds for its adopted charity, Food Bank Singapore, and other causes that the students want to champion. Chatsworth is well-known for fostering student agency and creating opportunities for agentic learning.
Another example of bringing enterprising ideas to reality is the Christmas Market, Chatsworth’s annual school tradition. Through this, the primary students learn to take on proactive roles, spread their joy and love to the community, and share their proceeds with adopted charities.
Student wellbeing – the heart of Chatsworth
Chatsworth takes a holistic approach when it comes to its students’ wellbeing. A carefully designed pastoral programme ensures that the student body is well supported and cared for. Students are also provided with information on healthy lifestyles and stress management through their regular PSHE lessons. Co-curricular activities are organised to support students’ physical and emotional wellbeing. Simply put, student wellbeing is at the forefront of this school, and it’s gone above and beyond to see that everyone can develop and excel in all aspects.
Why we love Chatsworth International School
What else can we say about Chatsworth? The school has done an awesome job of empowering its students to be the best version of themselves. Its mission to inspire, educate, and enlighten is what we love the most about the school. Their wins are truly well-deserved.
