There's a new Bugaboo on the block and we want in! Why the Bugaboo Fox is THE stroller to have on your radar...
If you’re in the market for a new set of wheels (the stroller kind, not the family-friendly motor vehicle kind) then get ready for excitement levels to ramp up a notch! There’s a brand new pushchair in town and it belongs to one of our all-time favourite stroller crew, Bugaboo! This new stroller is SO cool, it got it’s own launch party, and we were there to welcome to the world – drumroll please – the Bugaboo Fox!
Packed not only with all the sleek and snazzy design features we’ve come to expect from this stroller connoisseur, the Bugaboo Fox combines all the things we love about the the Bugaboo Cameleon, Bugaboo Donkey and Bugaboo Bee, into one nifty stroller… while weighing less than 10kg! Wizardry!
Sounds incredulous? We thought so too, which is why we flew all the way to Bugaboo HQ in Amsterdam to check it out and speak with Senior Product Developer, Marco Nieuwenhuizen. Read on for the deets on the stroller that’s going to be on every parent’s radar come 1 March 2018…
Bugaboo Fox: The scope
We were the first in Singapore to get our hands on the newly-unveiled Bugaboo Fox at its launch party in Europe earlier this month, and as parents ourselves with over 15 years of stroller experience (the good, the bad, and the downright ugly), we have to say that the Bugaboo Fox is a work of genius! Pitched as ‘the ultimate comfort stroller’, it checks in at a lightweight 9.9kg, but is still the perfect companion for when you’re shopping, travelling or exploring the great outdoors. Why do we love the Bugaboo Fox? Here’s a snippet of the many reasons we think this is THE stroller you need on your radar:
It’s a smooth ride on any surface: The all-wheel suspension and big tyres allow for a stable, steady ride on any surface – whether it’s a city sidewalk or a bumpy trail. You know what that means – time to sign up for more family fun runs: Now you can bring bubba along!
Comfort is key: The Bugaboo Fox has a new central joint suspension which makes the ride not only smooth, but bump free. Pretty handy when you’ve just spent two hours walking around trying to get baby to sleep in the stroller, and you run over a rock! Both the bassinet and toddler seat have been ergonomically designed to ensure newborns through to toddlers are snug at all times.
It’s lightweight: Trying to fold a stroller to fit it into a taxi while juggling baby, toddler and one zillion bags of shopping is a tough gig. The Bugaboo Fox not only folds in one piece, but because it doesn’t weigh the same as a house, it’s pretty easy to load into a car while holding onto your kid.
It’s an effortless push: No more slogging up-hill trying to get your tank of a stroller to steer in the right direction, with the Bugaboo Fox’s ultimate push control it’s power steering, stroller style!
All the pretty colours: The Bugaboo Fox is fully customisable. Choose from 13 hood fabric colours (made from recycled plastic bottles), two chassis colours, five seat fabric colours, four wheel cap options and three handlebar grip choices. So. Much. Choice.
The shopping basket: It’s the real deal, and one you can use to totally nail the weekly shop at the supermarket with plenty of room to stuff your fruit ‘n’ veg, nappies and wine (all the essentials, of course) in.
It will last you for years: One of the niftiest features of the Bugaboo Fox is that all its parts are replaceable, and these replacement parts are made from recycled materials that can be recycled after use. The fabric can be separated from its ‘backbone’, making it easy to remove and replace to extend its life cycle – and a good excuse to jazz up bubba’s ride when a funky new print gets released.
It’s an environmentally-friendly ride: We’ve already mentioned the sustainable parts of the Bugaboo Fox, but we also love that the fabrics are made from 92 recycled PET bottles! An environmentally sound fact demonstrated by a catwalk model in a ballgown made from plastic bottles at the big reveal (a look that may not catch on for mums just yet).
But don’t just take our word for it – we got the lowdown on all things Bugaboo Fox from one of the wizards who actually designed and created it, Marco Nieuwenhuizen!
Marco, why did Bugaboo choose the wily fox to be this particular stroller’s name?
Traditionally we have always used animal names, and the fox represents something that is agile, smart and quick, like the Bugaboo Fox. We also think that the engineering, which was years in the process, for this stroller is pretty cunning, also like a fox! We’ve created something that is still big and comfortable, but also lightweight, easy to use and very maneuverable.
Where do you get inspiration from for the design of Bugaboo Fox?
The designers are mostly parents, so we have a personal insight into what makes a great stroller, but we also listen to comments from our customers. The extendable sun canopy is a great example of public feedback. We love problem solving at Bugaboo, and are always looking at how people are using their strollers in their daily lives.
The Bugaboo Fox weighs less than 10kg! How did you manage such brilliance?
Creating a stroller that is sturdy and lightweight is down to a combination of clever engineering and design, and it took a lot of calculations to get it just right. A mixture of lightweight Polypropylene parts and materials have been used where possible, but there is not one specific material that can be attributed to the stroller’s lighter weight, it was all about finding the right balance.
Is it true that you design Bugaboo strollers as much with men in mind as women?
It is! It’s fair to say that traditionally you see mums behind the stroller and dads walking next to it. With the Bugaboo Fox, we tried to make it an easy stroller for ALL people to use, no matter where in the world you live or whether you are young, old, male or female. We looked at the positioning of the brake (which is our easiest to operate design yet) and also made it simple to steer one handed, which is something men tend to do. The adjustable handlebar is also a big plus as the Bugaboo Fox can be used comfortably no matter your height.
What kind of lifestyle is the Bugaboo Fox best suited for?
Any kind of lifestyle! That is the beauty of this stroller – it’s light enough to use in a city, and durable enough to use on more adverse terrains. We really worked hard on getting all the balances right so that parents no longer had to have two or three strollers for different purposes. The Bugaboo Fox is as easy to use when travelling as it is to use buzzing around town.
And finally, which is YOUR favourite Bugaboo and why?
I have been part of the design process on all of the Bugaboo strollers with the exception of the Bugaboo Donkey, and I am proud of them all. But while they all suit different needs and lifestyles, the Bugaboo Fox is the champion for me as it is so adaptable. You get all the benefits of a big stroller for both your child and yourself, but it’s still light and agile, which we thinks really puts it ahead of the competition. As a father myself, the Bugaboo Fox is the stroller I would choose.
Would we buy this stroller? Absolutely! It’s available to purchase from 1 March 2018, retailing in Singapore from $1999, and we suspect it’s going to be a huge hit!
