Bird Paradise Singapore: location and how to get there
Bird Paradise is situated within Mandai Wildlife Reserve, close to Singapore Zoo, River Wonders and the Night Safari (but located at a different drop-off point). Nestled just off Mandai Lake Road, the best place to park if you’re driving is the West Node car park.
Around the world at Bird Paradise: Ten themed zones
Divided into ten themed zones that mimic the native habitats of more than 400 bird species, Bird Paradise is designed to encourage discovery at every turn. Once inside, you’ll find immersive and naturalistic mixed-species habitats, including eight large walk-through aviaries that reflect different parts of the world. Explore snippets of dense African rainforests, South American wetlands, Southeast Asian fields and Australian bushland. There are even man-made waterfalls! Hear the different bird songs and see the natural behaviours of the birds, from taking flight to feeding, nesting and foraging through the undergrowth. Here’s a look at some of our favourite themed zones:
1. Wings of Asia
A stunning recreation of the tranquil bamboo forests and sloping rice terraces of Southeast Asia can be found at Wings of Asia. The landscaping serves more than just an aesthetic function, with the labyrinth of bamboo providing a major food source for the animals living in the habitat. The terraces also create a unique ecosystem for birds like the critically endangered Baer’s Pochard and endangered Milky Stork.
Highlight: Pelican feeding ($8 per food portion, prior booking required)
2. Penguin Cove
Over at the Penguin Cove, a state-of-the-art indoor habitat will eventually be home to penguins such as the Gentoo Penguin, King Penguin, Humboldt Penguin and Northern Rockhopper Penguin. It will offer a fascinating look into the oceanic life of these birds. The kids are sure to love this one!
Highlights: Penguin keeper talk, daily at 1:30pm. Free to attend.
3. Heart of Africa
Did you know that in tropical forests, birds live in layers? See this in action at the Heart of Africa zone of Bird Paradise, the most densely populated aviary with more than 800 birds. Here, visitors will find themselves in the forested valleys of continental Africa. Featuring an elevated canopy experience, visitors will be led into a dense misty forest with meandering forest streams, where they can observe birds displaying their natural behaviours.
Highlights: Starlings feeding at 9:30am and 2:00pm, $8 per food portion, prior booking required.
4. Australian Outback
Eucalyptus trees, laughing kookaburras, and majestic emus – be transported to the Australian Outback as you wander through this down-under themed aviary. The fun props including old tin water tanks and a wrought-iron windmill add to the Aussie atmosphere. Don’t miss the crowd favourites, the cockatoos, eating from saucers of food close to the walkway.
5. Crimson Wetlands
It’s all about colour here, with flocks of flamingos and brightly feathered macaws to be found in the Crimson Wetlands. A cascading waterfall transports you to the wetland habitats of Latin America. The key here is that the aviary is large enough to provide unobstructed flight paths for the inhabitants, which means you can see the birds fly in patterns and flock together!
Highlight: Macaw keeper talk, daily at 12:00pm, free to attend.
6. Mysterious Papua
The Cassowary is the third largest bird in the world and resembles a living dinosaur. If you want to get up close to this wondrous creature, head to the Mysterious Papua aviary. With pavilions themed after the houses of the Korowai tribe, feel like you’ve been transported to the lowlands of the Papua region.
Highlight: Cassowary Feeding, $8 per food portion, daily at 1.00pm, prior booking required.
Kids’ Play Areas at Bird Paradise
Tree Top Play
Kids will love exploring the adorable kids play areas at Bird Paradise. Climbing frames made from sustainable materials loom over a pretend river that is sure to spark their imaginations as wildlife explorers! Always brings a smile to our faces watching our little ones pretending to be birds flying through the canopies in the Tree Top Play area.
Egg Splash
Don’t forget to pack those swimmers for a splashing good time at the wet play fun area, Egg Splash, inspired by the eggs of waterbirds. Mini slides and splash pools, sprinklers and sprays make for a great way to cool down for the kiddos. Let the kiddos know to watch out for the end of the slide, as there is a bit of a drop into the pool.
Note: Currently closed for maintenance
Feeding sessions and hands-on encounters
Throughout Bird Paradise Singapore, you’ll find interactive education tools. There are bird interactions and feeding sessions, and hands-on encounters with the birds. There are even human-sized nests to explore! Going beyond play, these elements aim to create awareness and evoke deeper reflection on the real-life threats faced by the animals in the wild. Many of the birds we get to see at Bird Paradise are at risk of extinction. We need to take action to conserve their habitats in the wild and do our part for conservation. Some of our favourite encounters:
- Starlings Feeding Sessions, 9:30am and 2:00pm, Heart of Africa
- Cassowary Feeding, $8 per food portion, daily at 1.00pm, Mysterious Papua
- Penguin keeper talk, daily at 1:30pm, Penguin Cove
Live Shows
The Sky Amphitheatre is the place to go to see the birds of Birds Paradise in action! With two live shows to choose from, we can’t pick our favourite – we really enjoy them both. Informative, fun and exciting, the live shows are really well done and focus on conservation. Each show runs for around 20 minutes each, but it’s best to get there early to secure the best seats (near the aisles in the centre is good for the best views!)
1. Wings of the World
12:30pm and 5pm
This show features an all-star cast of scene stealers! The Wings of the World showcases a friendly duel of parrots as they try to outdo each other with speed, agility and showmanship. Our favourite has to be the yellow-naped Amazon Parrot, the only bird in the world that can sing in three languages – what a superstar.
The show also has interactive elements, and if you are one of the chosen ones, you have the chance to hold a knotted rope with goodies for the sun conures, a flock of super cute little parrots. The grand finale is sees one of the world’s biggest flocks of birds swoop onto the stage in a flurry of feathers and colours!
2. Predators on Wings
10:30am and 2:30pm
Our little ones love the drama of this show, with some of the bigger birds of Bird Paradise and the literal Predators on Wings. These birds are magnificent, and the star is undoubtedly the Sea Eagle, who swopps in at the end to catch a snake in their talons! There’s even an opportunity to try your hand at falconry, for those brave kiddos out there.

REVIEW: Glamping with the Penguins at Bird Paradise
If you’re seeking a fresh and exciting adventure to entertain your kids in Singapore, look no further! Bird Paradise recently introduced its newest offering Glamping with the Penguins. Our family had the pleasure of experiencing this and here’s our take on it:
Glamping at Penguin Cove
While Bird Paradise offers numerous exciting experiences, the highlight was unquestionably the glamping session with the penguins. Nestled in our tents with a view of swimming penguins was both enchanting and unparalleled. Our kids discovered the penguins’ sociable side; each time they illuminated their paper lanterns, the penguins eagerly approached. The tent setup, adorned with twinkling fairy lights and stocked with delightful picnic basket treats, was delightful. For the overnight stay, packing jackets and socks for the kids is advisable as it can get chilly at night.
Action-packed itinerary
Glamping with the Penguins provides a whole new dimension to the typical bird park visit. Spending a night surrounded by the park’s feathered inhabitants was an eagerly anticipated thrill for our family.
The itinerary was packed with excitement right from the start. The kids were enthralled during the Wings of the World presentation, marvelling at the diverse array of birds. Exploring the aviaries and avian hospital offered a wealth of insights, especially the up-close feeding sessions. The Avian hospital showcased the park’s dedication to caring for each bird, from abandoned hatchlings to those needing cancer treatment – an aspect that deeply impressed us.
On the dining front, the action-packed schedule worked up quite an appetite, especially for the little ones. Fortunately, the included meals were hassle-free, delicious, and a hit with the kids. Each meal served at different locations offered a refreshing change of scenery. All in all, it was a memorable experience!
