When your kid’s smooth baby-like skin is erupting with teenage hormones, it is time for some serious face time. Best part, you can come along too. In fact, we recommend that you do!
Raging hormones make teenage breakouts a fact of life, not just a phase. ‘ve learnt the hard way that bad decisions and excessive squeezing don’t just disappear with time. Since the grand appearance of his strawberry nose, we’ve made a mother-son ritual out of facial treatments. Whether it’s teenage breakouts or mid-life hydration, we prefer treatments that are gentle and powered by nature, which is exactly what we found at Roses & More Skin Alchemy.
Roses & More Skin Alchemy: Facial at Tanjong Pagar that changes with your skin’s needs

Every facial session at Roses & More Skin Alchemy will begin with a consultation — whether it’s your first time or your twentieth time there. Your skin changes, and so should your treatment. Each facial is adapted to what your skin needs on that specific day, as part of their Skin Sequencing philosophy: switching up the order and intensity of treatments to prepare your skin for each next step. They might address congestion before brightening, or calm irritated skin before introducing active ingredients. That means the same treatment can look quite different each visit.
The studio combines techniques including plasma technology, spicule bio-microneedling and manual lymphatic drainage to support the skin’s natural repair and renewal processes. They also offer targeted care for acne and eczema, with services extending to the hair, scalp and body.
Made by a mum, loved by her family

The staircase leading up to Roses & More Skin Alchemy was gently scented by incense near the entrance. Turns out, the incense was one of the many items crafted by the founder and head therapist, Jenny. She also makes bar soaps, shampoo bars, stick deodorants, and sanitizers, using essential oils that she personally sources and blends. One of her son’s favourite products is the bar soap because one bar does it all, perfect for in-camp days. Plus it smells so good that his army mates want in on the suds. And Jenny’s favourite item for her teen? The 100% natural deodorant that really stops the pong!
The one thing that caught my eye on the display shelf was the unicorn bar soap. It’s made without the nasties and it looks so cute, making it a customer favourite for goodie bags at kids’ birthday parties.

Facial treatment for teen

Looking at the list of treatments, I wasn’t sure what would be a suitable facial for a 15 year old boy with closed comedones and a blitz on his nose that lit up like the red-nosed reindeer. Acne treatments felt a little too harsh yet everything else doesn’t feel like it addresses his teenage breakouts. After the consultation, Jenny decided on the restorative Pure Botanica facial with a mild acid exfoliation, no extraction. His facial started with a Swiss detox clay mask to clear and calm the skin. After the gentle exfoliation, his therapist used a blend of organic rose petal powder and hydrosol to further support the restoration of his skin barrier. Rose (and the gentle hands of the therapist) must have had a relaxing effect on him because he dozed off just 15 minutes into the one-hour treatment. Although his memory is sketchy, he came out with a clear face and a zit that lost all its anger. In the next couple of days, he was no longer Rudolph.
Facial treatment for mums

For someone in their midlife like me, the Light and Glow Signature was the obvious choice. It combines Dual Plasma treatment (hot and cold) with Manual Lymphatic Drainage to hydrate my skin and give it a firmer and more lifted look. The plasma here refers to energised gas and not the platelet-rich plasma used in “vampire facials”. During my treatment, Jenny focused the cold plasma on areas with uneven skin texture, then gradually increased the intensity of hot plasma to work on my laugh lines and the loose skin around my lower jaw. There was a slight prickling sensation but I’d give it a zero on the pain scale. And yes, zero downtime too.
What I enjoyed the most was the Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Rather than the firm pressure of a deep-tissue massage or the sweeping strokes of gua sha, this involved light, rhythmic movements along the lymphatic pathways. It was so soothing that I was fighting to stay awake for this review!
As Jenny explained, the lymphatic system has no central pump like the heart. It transports fluids with muscle movement and external pressure. Manual Lymphatic Drainage uses gentle strokes to encourage movement and may help reduce puffiness. I felt less puffy and noticed my sinuses seemed clearer. After the 90-minute session, my skin looked bright and clear, and it continued to feel a little firmer over the next couple of days. If you are into energy-based aesthetic treatments, make sure to speak with your doctor or Jenny about your suitability and the timing.
