FAQ about exploring Haji Lane with kids
How to get to Haji Lane: Public transport and where to park
Whip out your bus and MRT cards because the BEST way to explore Haji Lane is on foot. Located within the iconic Kampong Glam neighbourhood, Haji Lane is just a stone’s throw from the Bugis MRT station (check out our family-friendly guide to Bugis!). It’s a little hipster stretch teeming with unique dining, shopping, and date night options, and Arab Street and Bali Lane are within walking distance.
By MRT: If taking the train, which is the most convenient way of heading to this hipster hood, take Exit D from Bugis MRT station for the fastest way to Haji Lane.
By car: If you’re toting kiddos in the car, you’ll want to snag the best parking spots! Park at Aliwal Street Car Park or the Public Car Park along Sultan Gate, then enjoy a quick stroll westward to Haji Lane. But they fill up fast on the weekends, so the best alternatives are the indoor parking at Bugis Junction, Bugis+, or even Raffles Hospital.
When is the best time to visit Haji Lane with kids?
Mornings and early afternoons are the best times. It’s cooler, calmer, and less crowded. We usually head down just after the shops open, giving us plenty of time to take photos and wander freely before the buzz sets in.
Is Haji Lane stroller-friendly?
The lanes in between the shophouses are narrow and it can feel tricky navigating through the human traffic on weekends. On weekdays, it is much more manageable. We’d recommend a lightweight stroller or putting baby in a carrier if you’re planning to shop and cafe hop.
Will kids enjoy Haji Lane?
Don’t expect playgrounds or play areas here. It’s an artsy place full of quirks and knick knacks, plus there are colourful wall murals to keep a look out for. Mine loved popping into stores and accessory shops to browse the cute items, and I know other kids who absolutely love dressing up at the photo studios.
