We spoke to parent Karla Robertson to find out more about Nexus International School (Singapore), what led her to enrol her kids in this school, and why they love it.
After visiting 12 schools around Singapore, parent Karla Robertson and her husband decided to enrol their children at Nexus International School (Singapore). Since then, they’ve seen their children grow into happy learners and thrive in school. Read on to find out what made Nexus stand out this family, their favourite aspects of the school, and how it supports them throughout their children’s learning journey.
Hello Karla, you visited quite a number of schools before enrolling your kids at Nexus. Can you tell us what were you looking for in a school, and what led you to choose Nexus?
My husband and I visited 12 schools in total, and Nexus felt the most ‘right’ for us. We wanted a school that’s a great all-rounder. What’s important for us is that the school should help our children develop into well-rounded individuals. We prefer a school that does inquiry-based learning, one that encourages different ways of learning and thinking. We also want a truly international school community for our kids.
My husband and I definitely got a better understanding of what is best for our kids. That’s why we chose Nexus, as we felt that it’s the best fit for our children and family.
And has the school lived up to your expectations?
Absolutely – 100%! We’ve seen our children thrive in all aspects in school, and they have teachers and friends from all over the world. As a family, we felt well supported while my second child received learning support at Nexus. It really is a lovely school.
So good to hear! What do they love about Nexus?
My eldest loves Physical Education lessons, and my second child loves playing in the Year 1 and 2 treehouse playground. My kids love their teachers, and our family really values them as well. They’re all kind, caring, supportive, approachable, and great at getting the best out of my children.
Nexus has made my kids so happy. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming when they had induction time on their first day at school. The lovely staff in Learner Services are also there to answer any questions we have.
Can you tell us about the curriculum offered at Nexus?
Nexus’ Primary School follows the International Baccalaureate framework. The curriculum encourages future thinkers. My children get loads of opportunities to learn inside and outside the classroom.
What are the facilities that benefited your kids?
The school has an amazing swimming pool where my kids go for weekly lessons. Their swimming has definitely improved! There are many great facilities at the school.
Does it have a community for parents, and how would you rate the level of communication between the school and your family?
There’s a Nexus Community Group that works with the school to host events for families, such as the International Fair and Christmas Fair. We think it’s a great way for us to get involved in our kids’ school life and meet new people. The group has done an awesome job at community building after the pandemic.
For school matters, we get weekly messages on Seesaw from the teachers. We get fortnightly school newsletters as well, which are really informative. Nexus also runs regular parent workshops on a variety of subjects to engage with parents.
Last but not least, any advice for parents who have yet to find a suitable school for their children?
You know your children what’s best for them. Trust your gut feeling when you’re visiting schools and pick one that best suits them.
