From individualised pastoral care to the school’s beautiful natural surroundings, read on to find out why the Becks chose ISS International School for their children.
A positive school environment can do wonders. It creates a safe space for children to learn and engage with each other, which can lead to improvement in both mental wellbeing and academic performance. The Becks found just that in ISS International School, which they feel is like “a close-knit community and more than just a school”.
Here’s what they have to say about ISS, what led them to choose it, and why they think it’s the best fit for their daughters Leah (Grade 3) and Gioia (Grade 1).
Hi Alexander and Amanda, can you share with us what were some of the important factors for you in selecting a school for your children?
Leah and Gioia were previously enrolled in an international school that follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum in Hong Kong. As such, the IB curriculum was the main deciding factor for us when choosing a school in Singapore. This is so that they can continue their studies seamlessly.
Why did you eventually choose to enrol them at ISS?
The beautiful natural setting where ISS is located definitely played a major role – we immediately fell in love with it!
In addition to that, we were impressed by the school Admission Staff’s responsiveness and friendliness. They were incredibly open-minded and supportive when it came to placing our girls in their appropriate grades. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the Admission Staff went above and beyond by creating a personalised school campus tour video for us since travel was not feasible.
The low teacher-student ratio was a key consideration in our decision making. We wanted our girls to be able to adapt more easily to their new school environment during this significant change in their lives.
What do Leah and Gioia like about ISS?
They adore the cosy school environment at ISS, where strong bonds are formed with teachers and friends. They find great excitement in exploring ISS’ natural surroundings, and frequently spot fascinating animals and insects around the campus. These encounters have fuelled their enthusiasm to be a part of the school from the very first day!
And what do you value most about the school?
We value the strong bond within the ISS school community that exists between teachers and students. What really strikes us is everyone knows everyone, no matter their age or grade. It’s more than just a school; it’s a close-knit community. We truly appreciate the excellent individualised pastoral care that ISS provides which aligns with our own values.
Last but not least, do you have any advice for parents who are looking for the perfect school for their child?
Instead of fixating on prestige and the school size, we encourage parents to place greater importance on finding a school that resonates with their family’s values and beliefs. Go beyond surface-level assessments and delve deeper into the school’s core principles. Take into account institutions that prioritise fostering a strong sense of community and delivering exceptional individualised care. These elements can truly make a substantial impact when seeking the perfect educational environment for your child.
Thanks for sharing with us, Alexander and Amanda!
