We got a peek at the theatre adaptation of the beloved book The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Here's all you need to know about the show…
We love kids’ theatre, so you know we’ve got the lowdown on shows you and the kids shouldn’t miss out on! Beloved classic The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams needs no introduction. There have been several retellings and theatre adaptations, and we love that Wild Rice has put together a local rendition in time for the tale’s 101st anniversary.
Pssst.. This stage adaptation is part of Wild Rice’s first A Little Wild show. A Little Wild is a new division of Wild Rice dedicated to providing young audiences aged 5 and up with the perfect first live theatre experience. We couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come!
The Velveteen Rabbit – What’s it all about?

Elly’s surprise birthday – shh, don’t tell her! – is overshadowed by her father’s absence, but the sheer happiness at all the toys she received quickly replaces the onset of that melancholy. There’s the brand-new remote control car and the utterly adorable velveteen rabbit. At first, Elly’s attention is on the remote control car that can zoom at will.
The velveteen rabbit lacks any mechanical function, so he’s chided by the other toys (who come alive when Elly’s away). An existential crisis plagues the poor bunny; however, Elly forms an endearing fondness for him. That is until the day she loses him! What might be the velveteen rabbit’s plight? Watch the play to find out!
