Impressive academic track record aside, what impressed these parents most about Global Indian International School is the teaching philosophy it upholds.
Everyone has a different view of what makes an excellent school. Some would say it’s the academic results a school produces, some would look at university acceptance rates. But ultimately, the main driving force behind these factors is a school’s teaching philosophy. The students and results a school produces is a reflection of the philosophy it upholds.
The teaching philosophy at Global Indian International School (GIIS) is exactly what parents David Yao and Candy Zang value about the school. In this testimonial, they share with us some of the aspects that make them believe GIIS is the best school for their son.
Hi David and Candy, how long has your son Max been with GIIS?
Max first joined GIIS in Grade 1 as part of the school’s International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP cohort. He’s now in Grade 4, following the IB’s Primary Years Programme, and takes a keen interest in music and doing art.
What led you to enrol Max in GIIS?
The three things that we prioritised in our school selection process were: the school’s IB performance, its infrastructure and facilities, as well as the quality of its teaching staff.
Prior to enrolling Max, we had the chance to visit the school and spoke to a Grade 1 teacher. We found the teaching philosophy that teachers uphold here to be commendable. The teachers encourage students to think independently, and diversity is valued here. These made us believe GIIS is the right school for our son.
We also believe academic performance is important as it demonstrates the progress of a child’s learning. GIIS is tops in this aspect as it has consistently shown excellent IB scores.
Has the school lived up to your expectations?
Yes, definitely. The teaching philosophy at GIIS is one that embraces student diversity and encourages independent thinking. The teachers at the school respect students, allow them to come up with their own ideas, and embrace their differences.
GIIS also offers a diverse curriculum that’s enriching for all students. It doesn’t just offer the IB, but the Indian national curriculum as well for families who prefer that. The school is affiliated to India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) too.
The infrastructure and facilities at GIIS are excellent, so students get to enjoy a conducive learning environment. It offers robotics classes, and has modern digital equipment that Max enjoys using. For us, having a school bus service also makes his schooling very convenient.
Most importantly, the school is open to feedback from parents and is continuously improving based on that.
What does Max enjoy about GIIS?
Max enjoys the diverse curriculum, especially his robotics and music classes as part of the school’s co-curricular activities. He loves the friends he has there, who are all very friendly and have actively helped him since his first day. Max has regular playdates with his classmates that helps him connect with other cultures.
The school has done a good job in creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere among classmates, which made the transition easier for new students like Max when he first joined GIIS. He’s always happy when he attends school.
Thank you for speaking to us, David and Candy!
