The school’s new kindergarten wing also won the Editor’s Choice for Best New Campus.
Here’s a school with not one, but two solid bilingual programmes; and programmes that equip students to be future-ready – Canadian International School (CIS)! The school is our gold winner for Best Bilingual Programme; and silver for International School with the Most Future-Ready Students in this year’s Singapore Education Awards.
To top it off, CIS was also chosen by the judges to win Editor’s Choice for Best New Campus.
A truly bilingual school
Did you know that CIS was the first school in the world to be certified as a Bilingual and Multilingual Learner school? The school has two bilingual programmes: Chinese-English and French-English. Both programmes are designed to foster linguistic development, where students are immersed in the culture of the target language during lessons. Students also learn both their target languages for equal amounts of time per week to ensure they grow into fluent communicators. Last year, CIS’ Chinese-English level 3 students scored a 96% passing rate against the international school national average of 80.23%. Its French-English students have also excelled in the Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française tests with a 100% passing rate.
A school that prepares students for university and beyond
CIS understands that students today will work in jobs, and solve problems that don’t yet exist. As such, the school aims to develop skills that will help them succeed in the 21st century. These include agility and adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurship, curiosity and creativity, collaboration and critical thinking, as well as emotional intelligence and resilience. The school uses Open Minds, an experiential learning programme, to teach students how to apply what they’ve learned into real-world settings. Besides this, students are encouraged to initiate and lead clubs in areas that they’re passionate about.
A school with a living and breathing classroom
Have you seen CIS’ dedicated kindergarten wing? It comes with a 2,600 square metre Outdoor Discovery Centre, which includes a vast play area with grassy hills and nature tunnels, sound and art gardens, mud kitchen, and an eco pond. The kindergarten wing also has learning pods lit by natural lighting, making them great learning environments. It’s no wonder our judges chose them to win Editor’s Choice for Best New Campus!
Well done, CIS!
