Come for a morning filled with French-inspired activities organised by the school’s French bilingual teachers and students themselves!
Fancy a taste of France in Singapore? Canadian International School’s (CIS) French bilingual teachers and students are organising a French Carnaval at their school, and you and your family are invited to come check it out! Here are deets here:
Date: 23 November 2022, Wednesday
Time: 9-10am
Venue: CIS Lakeside Campus, 7 Jurong West Street 41, Singapore 649414
The Carnaval is a unique showcase of CIS’ French-English Bilingual programme
CIS is the only school in Singapore to offer a French-English bilingual programme that’s fully aligned with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). This means that the school’s French bilingual students not only learn to master two languages but learn to apply their lessons to real world issues through inquiry-based and hands-on learning methods. For example: French bilingual students get to apply their knowledge and skills by creating recipes and speaking in French while cooking in their learning kitchen!
On top of that, the programme aims to produce not just students who are bilingual but also biliterate and bicultural. The upcoming French Carnaval is an excellent demonstration of this, as it features a good mix of activities that showcases not just the mastering of the French language, but also the students’ grasp of its culture. Students learn from two teachers – an English and a French teacher – who conduct the class in a 50:50 model to ensure equal exposure to both languages.
Parents interested in the programme will have the chance to speak to Dr Xiomara Cruz, CIS’ Primary Vice Principal and Head of the French-English bilingual programme, and her team of experts at the Carnaval to learn more about what the school has to offer.
What can you expect from CIS’ French Carnaval?
Come prepared for a fun-filled morning where you and your family will get to experience everything French, from food to games, as well as culture!
Start your day at the Carnaval at the mask booth, where you’ll get to explore your creative side and create a carnival mask of your own. After all, what’s a carnival without masks? You’ll also get to snap funky photos with the fam at the photo booth!
Now that you’re dressed for the Carnaval, why not challenge yourself to build a mini Eiffel Tower? The kiddos can pick up some simple maths and engineering concepts through this fun activity.
Feeling a little peckish? Head over to the French Café station, run by CIS’ talented French bilingual students, and enjoy some yummy fresh crêpes made to order by the chef. Don’t forget to also toss a play crêpe (or two) for a taste of France’s traditional La Chandeleur festival, where you can record your results in both English as well as French and learn about data collection.
