Whether your child is trained in theatre arts, or they’ve just started their first dance class, every child is welcome to shine in Chatsworth International School’s performances.
Imagine a school where every child – no matter their abilities – is invited to participate in school-wide performances. That’s what Chatsworth International School is like. From cultural festivals to annual school concerts, and even student showcases of a concept that they’ve mastered in class, every student has a chance to be a star at Chatsworth.
A school that doesn’t preselect student performers
Believing that every student has their own unique set of talents, Chatsworth actively involves all of them in performances without selection. All primary school students are involved in dramas, concerts, as well as the sing and dance competitions that take place at the end of each school year. As it’s not a large school, Chatsworth’s faculty and staff are able to easily plan and engage the whole student body in school-wide performances.
But it’s not just the students who are performing – teachers strut their stuff on stage too! Chatsworth’s teachers and even parents have their own dedicated dance segments to demonstrate their participation in school events as well.
Art and music lessons are integrated into Chatsworth’s curriculum
Rehearsals and actual performances aren’t the only times when Chatsworth’s students get to dabble in the dramatic arts and music. Primary school students have access to Arts, Music, and Performance lessons every week. Not only do they get to learn the skills and techniques to perform on stage, lessons like these help build confidence and provide students with a safe space to express themselves creatively. These are all offered as part and parcel of Chatsworth’s well-balanced academic offering.
Beyond these specialist classes, Chatsworth students can expect to experience elements of the performing arts in their academic lessons too. Eleri Connor, Chatsworth’s Assistant Head of Primary and Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator explains, “At Chatsworth, opportunities to take the stage don’t only come through music and performance lessons; they are also built into the programme of inquiry. Students find different ways to bring stories to life, or to express themselves through the performing arts. Regardless of the nature of performances, students collaborate with teachers and peers to bring out their best selves and thrive in their own way.”
School performances help bring the school and parent community closer
With every child given a chance to be a star in Chatsworth, every parent has the opportunity to see their child shine in the school. Families are often invited to witness and celebrate school events at Chatsworth, allowing them to share wonderful moments and create beautiful memories of their children’s learning years. These school performances are just one of the few ways that Chatsworth creates the warm and welcoming environment that it’s known for. Students form stronger bonds with their peers, families and faculty also get the chance to meet and engage with each other too. It’s no surprise that Chatsworth is a two-time gold winner of the School Where Everybody Knows Your Name category in our Singapore Education Awards!
