Families are invited to see how Australian International School goes beyond the traditional methods of teaching to provide children with a holistic education.
Looking for a schooling experience for your child that isn’t purely academic-driven? Australian International School (AIS) is one that goes beyond this, offering learning experiences beyond traditional classrooms that promises holistic development for your child.
In fact, AIS invites families to visit the school during its monthly Open House events. You will have the opportunity to see how beyond-classroom learning is conducted here. Here are the deets of the upcoming April Open House.
Date: 18 April 2024
Time: 9.30am till 11am
Venue: AIS (Gate 3), 1 Lorong Chuan, Singapore 556818
How AIS helps students learn outside the classroom
Outdoor learning is a regular feature for every AIS student, including the youngest ones in its Early Learning Village. The littlest ones may take lessons in The Secret Garden on campus, or go for short excursions at the nearby park. Older students have the chance to go for more adventure-filled, from trekking and camping to, or even overseas cultural experience trips.
One of the biggest benefits of outdoor education is hands-on learning opportunities, which makes the learning process more engaging as students get to see how things work in real life situations. Besides that, learning outside the classroom, especially in natural surroundings, teaches students the importance of environmental conservation. Activities like trekking and camping also help develop their social skills and resilience, as most require students to step beyond their comfort zones.
Beyond-classroom learning also means acquiring more than just textbook knowledge
While AIS is known for its strong focus on academic learning, the school also prioritises sports and the arts as well. The Sports Department offers a wide range of team sports that all students are welcome to join, no matter their skill level. This promotes physical fitness and develops the spirit of sportsmanship within the student body. Swimming lessons are also included into every elementary school student’s timetable so that students can master this important life skill.
When it comes to the arts, students are spoiled for choice with the offerings from AIS’ Visual Arts Department. With 21 dedicated music programmes, visiting artists-in-residence for drama, and excellent facilities for art-making, there are many avenues for students to exercise and develop skills in creativity as well as critical thinking. Their talents are also celebrated through performance opportunities in school, and through external events organised by the Australian High Commission, as well as ANZAC Day at Kranji Memorial.
Last but not least, vocational education and training is available at AIS for students who prefer a more career-focused approach to learning. Currently, internationally-recognised vocational qualifications in construction and hospitality are offered by the school. Students can opt to take it as part of the Higher School Certificate programme (following the Australian national curriculum), or as a standalone qualification.
