Exciting things are launching in 2025 for the Year 9 students of Tanglin Trust School: from outdoor learning to field work, and more!
Picture this: a five-week school trip to Gippsland, Australia, with your classmates, where you’ll have loads of time to learn in the great outdoors. Sounds fun? Year 9 students of Tanglin Trust School will be able to experience this in the form of the school’s new Tanglin Highlands Programme that’s launching in 2025!
What is the Tanglin Highlands Programme about?
The Tanglin Highlands Programme is a new learning experience created by Tanglin, based on the legacy of the school’s founder, Miss Griffith-Jones (Miss Griff). She also opened a boarding school in the Malayan Highlands back in 1934.
The programme will take place in the Tanglin Gippsland campus, which is situated within the Alpine region of the state of Victoria. Just like Miss Griff’s vision for her Malayan school, the Gippsland campus will serve as a healthy, safe, and refreshing learning environment for Tanglin’s Year 9 students.
What will students be learning in the Highlands Programme?
Expect lots of outdoor adventures and hands-on learning opportunities! As students will be surrounded by nature in Tanglin Gippsland, it’s the perfect place for outdoor learning and fitness activities.
It’s also worth noting that the Highlands Programme is specially designed to cater to Year 9 students, as they’re going through an important developmental phase in their lives. As such, the programme will be filled with activities and experiences that aim to inspire curiosity, nurture confidence, and promote the value of community among students.
Academic subjects like biology, geography, and history will continue to be taught during the students’ time at Gippsland. The great thing is that students will have more experiential learning opportunities with these subjects in the form of field trips and ecological projects. There’ll be a healthy mix of learning both in and outside of the classroom, with outdoor programmes focusing on developing collaboration skills, confidence, resilience, and grit.
Besides these, there’ll be service learning too as students will have the chance to learn about the significance of the campus’ surroundings to the local indigenous community. Being a sustainable campus, Tanglin Gippsland is a great place for students to see sustainability in action as well as their roles in creating a sustainable future.
A programme that prepares students for the challenges of tomorrow
By instilling curiosity, confidence, and community in its Year 9 students, the Tanglin Highland Programme aims to life-changing experience for its Year 9 students. Students will find themselves challenged in different ways in the programme, especially since it’s all taking place in a new environment.
