Stamford American International School offers an holistic education for students from 2 months to 18 years of age, being the first and only school in Singapore to offer Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) and Business and Technical Education Council (BTEC) Diploma curricula, together with a US-accredited High School Diploma.
Multiple graduating pathways
Stamford American International Singapore is an inclusive school which offers multiple education pathways to suit students and their interests. We offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), the IB Diploma Programme (DP), the AP Diploma Program (AP) and the Business and Technology Education Council Diploma Program (BTEC).
Stamford American is a school that takes pride on its dual focus on inclusion and academic excellence, and our results speak for themselves. Our IB Diploma Programme performance has consistently improved year-on-year. Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by a global pandemic, Stamford students continued to achieve strong results in the IB DP exams. Our sixth graduating cohort has achieved a 100% passing rate on the IB exams with an average score of 35, three points higher than a year ago. The exam average of 5.6 (out of 7) was also higher than in any previous years. Nearly 90% of our diploma students achieved at least a score of a 6 or above, universally accepted as a very strong exam score.
20% of total IB test-takers scored 40 points or higher, and two scored a near-perfect score of 44 against 45. 40 points considered an outstanding achievement. Upholding Stamford’s reputation as a truly international and diverse community of over 75 nationalities, 29% of our students have been awarded the rigorous IB Bilingual Diploma.
Not only has Stamford American showed consistent improvement in our results, our student growth continues to soar in comparison with worldwide IB school averages. Compared to the global improvement, Stamford American students have exceeded expectations and gone over and beyond their peers, achieving higher than the global average in no less than four categories.
Our Class of 2021 AP Program students have achieved an average score of 3.3, with over 70% of the exam scores being a 3 or above. Universities around the world consider a score of 3 or above on one of these exams as evidence of high academic standing. An indication of the strength of the AP Program at Stamford is that in 90% of our AP subjects, over half the candidates scored a 3 or above.
Our BTEC students have also accomplished great results in the first year of the program, with two students earning a Distinction and a Merit respectively for BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts: Acting.
To date, our Class of 2021 have received offers from Universities and Colleges in 18 different countries, with notable acceptances from Boston University, New York University, UC Los Angeles, UC Berkeley, Imperial College, University of Amsterdam, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University amongst others.
Stamford American is also one of the few schools in Singapore with onsite SAT and ACT test centers, offering college preparatory tests for secondary students from Grade 10. We have a dedicated Academic and College Counseling Team that is tuned in to the requirements of universities all over the world.
Innovative Bilingual Program, trusted by parents
With the rising popularity of the Mandarin language both socially and in business, Stamford American has developed its innovative One-Bilingual teacher approach for our bilingual classes. Students interested in dedicating more time and effort into learning Mandarin as a second language can join the Bilingual Program at no extra cost. This program gives learners equal exposure to the English and Mandarin languages in the subjects and concepts taught within their grade. Classes are taught by bilingual teachers who are masters of both languages, with extensive experience in teaching in a bilingual environment.
Our unique one-bilingual-teacher approach is trusted by parents and in this program, our bilingual teachers and teaching assistants are fluent in both languages and demonstrate bilingualism as role models to the students.
Stamford American’s program is offered from Pre-K to Grade 5 and in our bilingual program, students learn the same content as students in mainstream classes. The main difference is that 50% of the content in Math and Units of Inquiry (UOI ) is delivered in Mandarin. Additionally, the Bilingual Program teacher plans together with the regular class teachers of the grade level to cover the same concepts and have the same student learning objectives as the regular classes.
Both divisions follow the guidelines of the American Council of Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Lessons in Grades 1-5 are delivered using the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework, while Pre-K and Kindergarten follow the research-based GOLD standards.
Our bilingual classes are assessed through placement tests, internal assessments, and the STAMP language proficiency test developed by the University of Oregon (starting in Grade 3). All these assessments focus on evaluating proficiency in the 4 language domains of reading, listening, speaking and writing.
