The Ferry family loves Sir Manasseh Meyer International School for its welcoming and inclusive community, as well as the focused academic support each of their children get from its boutique size.
Though it’s only been a year since Ji Yeon and Simon’s children joined Sir Manasseh Meyer International School (SMMIS), the couple’s children are loving their school life there. The family loves the school’s warm and nurturing environment, where teachers are supportive and attentive to their children’s needs. Read on for Ji Yeon and Simon’s full review of SMMIS.
What were the top things you were looking for in your children’s school?
We were looking for a school that would provide good academic support for our children, with strong values as well as an equally strong and diverse community. We are also drawn towards schools which are not-for-profit.
What made you decide to enrol your children at SMMIS?
SMMIS ticked all the boxes: it’s a not-for-profit school that has a small and close-knit community. On top of these, the school stood out with its state-of-the-art campus, which includes a professional-grade soccer pitch, lap swimming pool, fully equipped sports hall, and modern auditorium.

What curriculum does SMMIS offer?
Our younger children in primary school follow the International Primary Curriculum; while our older ones follow the International Middle Years Curriculum, Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels. SMMIS also offers Jewish Education and World Religions, which we understand is part of the school’s commitment to create an enriching experience for students of all faiths and backgrounds. We find that this adds a unique cultural and ethical dimension to the curriculum.
What does your family like most about SMMIS?
Our children enjoy attending SMMIS every day: they benefit from their supportive teachers and enjoy its welcoming, inclusive community. This has helped our children settle in well. There’s also a wide range of field trips and co-curricular activities offered. Due to the small class sizes, our children enjoy more focused academic support and get to explore their interests through the school’s carefully selected IGCSE subjects.
As parents, we appreciate the supportive teachers and staff. They’re always happy to offer extra help whenever they see a need. The school serves nutritious meals as well, which is a huge plus for us!

Is there a community for parents at SMMIS?
Yes, the school is very community-focused. SMMIS makes us feel like we’re part of something meaningful, which has been especially important for us after relocating to Singapore. We’re also grateful for the very active Parent Teacher Association, which creates a lot of opportunities for us parents to connect and get involved.
Do you have any advice to offer parents who are looking for a school for their children?
Look for a school that has strong values, a supportive community, and an environment where you know your child will feel seen and heard. We chose SMMIS specifically for this and its not-for-profit status, which has made a big difference to our children’s transition and overall happiness in their new home. What reassured us most was the genuine care, where teachers and staff are quick to offer extra help whenever they spot a need. This makes a real difference.
Thanks for speaking to us, Ji Yeon and Simon!
