Join the party for educational and stimulating activities for kids including live, multilingual storytelling sessions of Eric Carle’s beloved tale The Very Hungry Caterpillar, hands-on fun at the herb and vegetable garden, and mud play while discovering math concepts. Other highlights include the obstacle course at the caterpillar’s cocoon and the craft corner where kids can create butterfly or caterpillar crowns. To add to the carnival atmosphere, parents and kids can also enjoy live music, refreshments and face painting. RSVP here now to join the garden tea party!
An outdoor oasis for kids
More than just a playground, the Outdoor Discovery Centre is a wonderful classroom offering myriad learning experiences to engage kids in sights, sounds, tastes and textures unique to the natural world. CIS understands the importance of outdoor play. Designed with kindergarten learning in mind, the new centre is all about hands-on exploration, which Andrea Strachan, Vice Principal of CIS Kindergarten, describes as crucial in solidifying new learning concepts.
Key features at the discovery centre include a mud garden where kids can play barefoot in safety, conduct experiments and learn about math concepts. There is also an edible vegetable garden so children can learn to care for the environment and a natural pond to encourage an understanding of water ecosystems.
For crafty kids, the art walls are a wonderful place to unleash their creativity, while the sound garden helps children experiment with chimes, plastic buckets and other items. Finally, to nurture gross motor skills, the centre is also equipped with a bicycle track, grassy hills and tunnels so your kids can have a ball playing hide and seek or withdraw for a little peace and quiet reflection.
To experience the outdoor discovery space in person, don’t miss the Very Hungry Caterpillar garden tea party at Canadian International School.
