How does One World International School support its students’ learning journeys? Hear the school leaders explain in kid-friendly terms…
One World International School (OWIS) recently appointed a new Academic School Leadership Team for its Nanyang campus. Its Early Childhood & Primary School is now headed by Mr Karel van der Linden and Dr Tracy Ghomashchian heads up the Secondary School. According to OWIS’ Head of School, Mr Mark Renie, this will enable the school to meet all of its students’ needs through age-appropriate learning methods, allowing all pupils to realise their full potential.
So what does this mean for an OWIS student? And most importantly, how will the school’s new leadership team support their learning journey? A few students got the chance to put their questions to Mr Renie, Mr Linden, and Dr Ghomashchian. Here’s what they had to say…

Eisuke, a Grade 1 student, asked Mr Linden about a new subject in the Early Childhood & Primary School – Information & Communication Technology (ICT). Mr Linden explained how students would learn about digital citizenship, digital skills, and most exciting of all: “We’re going to be doing some coding!”
As students will transition from the Modified Cambridge Curriculum to Cambridge IGCSE after Grade 8 in Secondary School, Grade 8 student Jacob wanted to know how the school would support him and his peers through this. Dr Ghomaschchian said that all of OWIS’ teachers are always available for their students to approach for help. “We’re always putting in place intervention plans to support you,” she added.
Last but not least, IB Diploma student Amol asked Mr Renie for some advice on what OWIS graduates can carry forward into university life. Mr Renie said, “One thing that I would love our students at OWIS to take forward is the values that we share and teach them.” He then went on to list the values: compassion, empathy, kindness, communication, collaboration, and international-mindedness. “I believe these are all key skills that we believe will allow all our students to be successful,” he added.
