Parents at Odyssey de Loyang Global Preschool
Tell us about the child you have attending the school?
Our son, Mehul, is 4 and a half years old and is in Nursery 2. He is energetic, curious, detail-oriented, fun loving and social.
What were the most important factors for you in selecting a school?
Firstly, the overall ambience and location were important. Our first glimpse of Odyssey de Loyang made it a very easy decision to enrol Mehul: the brand new campus is very green and surrounded by nature. The open and friendly atmosphere also gives the school a real family feeling. It’s just a few minutes from home too.
The teaching staff are very hard working and like their hands-on approach – they just seem so passionate about what they do.
How has the school lived up to your expectations?
Very well, with all of the above factors being met, or visible and on-going effort by the school towards these. We made the right decision in sending Mehul to Odyssey as he is now well adjusted and loves going there; the positive impact in him is already noticeable with respect to his knowledge, approach to learning, and confidence.
What does your child like most about attending this school?
Lots of activities to participate in, pleasant environment and caring staff. Mehul enjoys every aspect of school, the facilities are everything kids could wish for: well equipped classrooms and outdoor spaces which include the playground, the tricycle circuit, sand play, water play and much more. He loves his classroom activities, thinking corner, painting, kitchen for him to be a “Chef”, and playing with his friends.
What sort of curriculum does this school offer?
The school offers a curriculum that effectively challenges Mehul to engage his mind, heart and hands to learn. We love that. Its a blend of Reggio Emilia and Waldorf principles and also incorporates International Baccalaureate learnings and international mindedness. Overall, the curriculum is designed to empower each individual child.
What advice would you give other parents trying to choose a school?
To pick a (pre)school where the approach to learning and teaching challenges both the IQ and EQ, where teaching goes beyond “numbers” and “alphabets”, and challenges children to feel, express and manage their senses and feelings. I believe that at preschool “learning to learn” is key!
What do you value most about the school?
We feel very secure that Mehul is being well looked after and that peace of mind is priceless. Children are valued as unique and competent individuals who bring with them their very own identity, strengths, potential, talents and gifts. We feel that Mehul has developed into such a lovely and sociable child, he is learning to be independent and respect and sharing with others.
Are you satisfied with the level of communication you receive from the school and how they engage parents?
They keep the parents very involved and we receive almost daily emails updating us on Mehul’s progress and other news. The monthly update includes lots of pictures of the kids with their friends and the activities they have been involved in.
We really like that teachers and the principal welcome kids to school each morning. It also provides the opportunity for parents to engage with the teachers. They are open minded, listen to parents’ feedback, and work together with us to support the children’s learning and well being. There is also a ‘Parent Support Group’ in place. The school encourages the participation of parents in each child’s learning. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved in various classroom activities like story reading sessions and field trips.
