An average ATAR of 85, one perfect IBDP scorer, and close to half of the class earning an IB Bilingual Diploma – we break down what the exam results mean for this non-selective international school.
Can non-selective international schools produce academically strong students? You bet, and Australian International School (AIS)’s class of 2025 is a great example. We heard that the students produced really strong results across the International (IB) and Australian Higher School Certificate (HSC) pathways, both of which are offered in AIS to Year 11 and Year 12 students.
AIS class of 2025’s results at a glance
Under the HSC pathway, 40% of AIS’ 2025 cohort achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 90 and above. The ATAR is the percentile rank of a student’s Year 12 results, compared to all other students taking the HSC in Australia and around the world. For context, an ATAR 90+ result is typically associated with entry into highly selective universities, including the likes of University College London, Columbia University, and the University of Hong Kong.
Overall, the class of 2025 scored an average ATAR of 85, placing them in the top 15% of HSC graduates. A fifth of AIS’ HSC cohort also received High Achiever Awards from NSW Education Standards Authority, and several of them secured places on the State Merit List too!
As for students who took the IB Diploma (IBDP) pathway, 28% of them scored 38 points and above (out of 45), with one student gaining a perfect score. More impressively, 41% of AIS’ IB graduates were awarded the prestigious IB Bilingual Diploma. AIS IB graduates also exceeded the global average of 29.3 with a combined average score of 34.9.
Success isn’t just measured academically at AIS

Beyond the academic curriculum, students have access to a variety of co-curricular activities (from public speaking to water polo, and even historical wargaming) as well as outdoor education programmes, which includes activities under the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. There are also leadership and volunteering opportunities for students to participate in as well.
How do these help with their exam results, you ask? CCAs, outdoor learning, and service learning provide AIS students with a holistic schooling experience, and contribute to their wellbeing too. What’s more, top universities value qualities like confidence, resilience, and independence in candidates – all of which can be further developed through learning beyond textbooks and classrooms.
The school offers scholarships too!

That’s right – AIS offers two types of scholarships for students in Years 9-12. The General Scholarship recognises students with academic achievements in the 90th percentile and active involvement in CCAs or hold a student leadership position.
The Specialist Scholarship awards those who excel in one or more of four categories, namely leadership and service, STEM and innovation, sports, and the arts. The former provides a reduction of up to 50% in tuition fees, while the latter offers up to 25% reduction. This applies to students following the IGCSE, IBDP, and HSC pathways.
