The newest preschool in Singapore is inviting parents and their little ones to ‘play out of the box’ at its upcoming open house!
You’ve heard of the advantages of being able to think outside the box, but have you ever heard of the benefits of letting kids play outside the box? This is an experience that Lily Valley International Preschool, a new preschool in Singapore, wants to introduce to parents and children during their upcoming open house on 23 July 2022!
What does it mean to ‘play out of the box’?
‘Playing out of the box’ refers to the act of creative play. It happens in an environment where children are provided with a variety of materials and tools, as well as inspiration and support to create play artefacts of their own. This is exactly how Lily Valley designed their school space to be – a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool that’s equipped with different play ateliers that encourage children to tinker, create, and explore freely.
And your family is invited to experience Lily Valley play spaces during its Play Out Of The Box event, held in conjunction with its open house! Here are the deets:
When: 23 July 2022, 10am-1pm
Where: Lily Valley International Preschool, Marina Square, 6 Raffles Boulevard, #02-27/28, S039594.
What are the play ateliers available at Lily Valley?
Lily Valley has four specialised ateliers that use different materials and mediums to promote creativity, exploration, and open-ended play. Here’s what you’ll get to experience with your little ones:
Here’s an atelier dedicated to the research and experimentation of light. You and the kiddo will get to experience light in its different forms here. You’ll even get to ‘play’ with light to create your own light scapes and sculptures!
Digital 3D Atelier
This atelier allows children to use digital tools and technology (computers, projectors, webcams, etc.) to create art, motion, and unique compositions. During the open day, families will get the chance to go through a fully immersive virtual experience in this atelier. Get ready for a journey to outer space; or an adventure in the rainforest! Plus, virtual games for the whole family to participate in!
Tinker and Maker Atelier
Watch creations come to life at this creative atelier, where kids can experiment with robotics and LEGO coding. There’ll be a Family STEM Challenge during the Play Out Of The Box event, so come prepared with ideas to stand a chance to win exclusive prizes!
Kids will be delighted with this specialist arts room as they’ll have access to a variety of different materials to create visual art pieces with!
But that’s not all! Families will also get to participate in Music PLAY Time, a mini creative music and movement workshop that’s designed to promote creativity and musicality through music-making, singing, moving, and playing.
Oh, and did we mention that there’s an outdoor pop-up playground area? Kids will be invited to build fortresses or houses with loose parts like cardboard boxes, sticks, tapes, and more! There’s even a sandbox and water play area available for messy play.
What sets Lily Valley apart from other preschools?
Lily Valley International Preschool is a non-profit Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool that follows a child-centred approach. Children go through the International Early Years Curriculum from 18 months old before transitioning to the International Primary Curriculum at age five.
As parents are considered crucial in the Reggio Emilia approach, Lily Valley values close knit family participation as well. Parents are viewed as partners in the students’ learning journey. Hence, the preschool offers workshops, forums, as well as field trips that involve students and their parents. The preschool even has a co-working space where parents can work from; or use it as a community area to meet and exchange ideas with teachers and other parents.
