If you’re looking for a school with academic rigour and a diverse range of language programmes, then this review will give you all the info you need about the International French School (Singapore).
The International French School (Singapore) is a familiar name to both Vincent Boissac and Nilma Missir. Vincent’s nephews and nieces are alumni of the school, who continue to speak fondly of their time at IFS despite having attended it more than 10 years ago.
Encouraged by this and the well-structured curriculum, the Boissacs decided to enrol their twins in this international school – and the rest was history. Read on for the Boissac family’s review of IFS.
What are some of the key factors that you were looking for in a school?
We wanted a school that has a strong curriculum, offers a diverse range of language learning opportunities, exudes a positive spirit, and has high quality educators who can inspire and support our children to learn and eventually reach their full potential. If possible, we also wanted a school that follows the French education system, as we’re a mixed heritage family and half-French. It’s important for us to maintain a French connection, both culturally and academically, for our children.

We’re guessing that IFS ticked all the boxes – was there anything else that drew you to the school?
Yes, it met all our expectations and more. IFS isn’t just a school, it’s a truly diverse and multicultural community where children learn not just through textbooks but experiences. We’re also especially pleased that our children are growing up trilingual, as IFS teaches French, English, and Mandarin.
What’s most encouraging is that our nephews and nieces, who attended IFS over a decade ago, continue to speak fondly of their time at the school. It speaks volumes for the school to leave such a positive legacy in its alumni.
How did the school support your children through their first day?
Our children were warmly welcomed by their teachers, peers, and staff. The teachers made a special effort to ease their transition, going out of their way to ensure they’re comfortable in the classroom. IFS also has this inclusive and nurturing atmosphere which helped our twins settle in quickly. It builds their confidence, and they’re excited to attend school each day.

What do they like about IFS?
Like most children, our twins enjoy their recreational time the most! They love sharing stories about their day with us, sometimes even surprising us with what they’ve learned.
What do you think about the school’s facilities?
IFS has excellent facilities: from well-equipped classrooms and creative spaces, to playgrounds and sports areas. It’s a safe environment that is also stimulating for children, which encourages exploration, creativity, and physical activity.
Is there a community for parents at IFS?
Yes, the school does a wonderful job in building a community for parents. There are many opportunities for us to connect with other families, such as welcome coffees, classroom events, as well as parent-led activities and associations. It makes us feel part of the IFS family, which we find is a valuable part of our experience as parents.
How would you describe the level of communication between the school and parents?
IFS does an excellent job in communication and we’re very happy with it. The administration and teachers are responsive and proactive. We’re well-informed about our children’s progress, upcoming school events, and important updates. There’s also a clear effort to keep parents engaged and included in our children’s school life, which we really appreciate.

What do you value most about IFS?
It’s definitely the dedication and calibre of the teaching staff, as well as the supportiveness of the wider school administration. IFS is a great school not only for its holistic and multicultural education, but for its supportive environment as well. We’re happy that we found a school that has strong academics, excellent language offerings, and a genuine sense of community for our children. We believe these will help them thrive intellectually and socially.
Last but not least, any advice for parents who are still looking for the right school for their children?
We highly recommend parents to visit their shortlisted schools in person. This allows you to observe the school’s atmosphere and culture, and speak with the teachers, students, as well as their parents. But above all, trust your instincts, as you know what’s best for your children.
Thank you for speaking to us, Vincent and Nilma!
