International Community School’s (Singapore) alumni are going places, one of them played a part in the International Monetary Fund’s Global Health and Pandemic Response Task Force during the Covid-19 pandemic.
After graduating from International Community School (ICS) (Singapore), Brandon Tan did a degree in Economics at Princeton University, subsequently earning his PhD from Harvard University. Since then, Brandon has been working in top organisations around the world, including the likes of Meta, McKinsey & Company, World Bank, and currently serves as an Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
At IMF, he helped lead its Global Health and Pandemic Response Task Force during the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, he’s providing policy advice to countries and conducts research into macro-financial implications of digital money – all of which allow him to serve and bring about positive change on a global scale.
Brandon’s journey at ICS has been instrumental in shaping his current success
Having spent his formative years in ICS, Brandon has benefited from the holistic education offered by the school. It focuses on the overall development of a student, putting equal emphasis on academics, personal growth, and global awareness. This approach has produced well-rounded graduates: academically strong, socially aware, and culturally competent.
Like Brandon, his fellow ICS alumni have gone on to become leaders and change-makers in various fields. Students at ICS follow the American curriculum that’s anchored in Common Core standards. They have access to qualified counsellors in the school’s dedicated counselling department, who are there to provide support in social-emotional growth.
On top of that, service learning features prominently in every student’s schooling experience at ICS. Students are shown how they are capable of making a difference, regardless of their age, through projects that serve the Singaporean community and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia. A good example is ICS’ Weeks Without Walls (WWW), which brings students on service learning trips and projects around the region for 15 years. Brandon shares, “ICS’ WWW programme has been a transformative journey for me. It was during my first WWW trip to India that I discovered my passion for economic development, leading me to pursue a career as an economist.”
Your child can be a future change-maker too
