There is so much going on at the next Gillman Barracks’ Art Day Out that it deserves its own mini-guide! From children’s theatre performances to cultural dance, workshops for teens, and arts ‘n’ craft for the whole family, there really is something for everyone...
Art Day Out is back and bigger than ever over at Gillman Barracks, and an epic opportunity to encourage creativity in kids through workshops, theatre and a whole lotta fun. The open house extravaganza is on Saturday 25 June with a special school holiday edition guaranteed to get a big thumbs up from the whole family. We say take advantage of this fabulous chance for the kids to create some really cool art without having to clear up the mess! Think bouncy castles, workshops, tours, great food, entertainment and exhibitions: all for free!
Children’s Theatre: The Squirrel and the Katak
Cake Theatrical Productions is performing not one, but two sessions of its specially commissioned interactive performance The Squirrel and the Katak. Shows are on at 2pm and 5pm and take a fun look at the Gillman Barracks’ history through the eyes of the squirrel and katak (frog) residents of the area.

Art Explorers’ Workshop with Merryn Trevethan
Little ones will love designing and painting their own tote bag at this creative session. Be warned: getting messy will be part of this fun workshop!

Playeum: Children’s Centre for Creativity
Never has there been a better time to check out this HoneyKids’ fave: bag yourself a 20% discount for the new Hideaways – Creating with Nature exhibition, where kids get their hands on natural materials and have the chance for some serious nature exploration. There will also be free art activities going on outside the plaza area!

Sullivan + Strumpf Exhibition: Arrival
Notable Australian art Gallery Sullivan + Strumpf has launched in Singapore at Gillman Barracks with its inaugural exhibition, Arrival. This group exhibit reflects on themes such as identity, materiality, construction of memory, as well as the fragility of the human condition. One for the grown-ups and older kids to check out.

Teen and Tween Workshop
Teens and tweens are also included in the round-up of cool stuff to do. This workshop will see kids creating their own Soda Pop with artist-in-residence, Julian ‘Togar’ Abraham.

Barbecue at Timbre
The BBQ will be fired up and ready to go as part of the Saturday Social BBQ: Kidlympics Edition. As well as classic barbecue fare, there will be speed relay games, bouncy castles, wading pools for toddlers, live music, cold beer and arts ‘n’ craft activities. Save us a seat!
