How to gear up for F1
Fast cars, heart-pumping live music, and the world’s most talented drivers all gathered together on our island – what’s not to love about F1 Singapore 2014 GP! If you’re counting down the sleeps to 19 September (101 more days to go!), here’s how the whole family can gear up for the big day – whether you’re gear heads or not!
#1 – Watch an award-winning F1 film
F1 Singapore GP has teamed up with Public Libraries to present ‘Pit Stop @ The Libraries’ – a series of free exhibition roadshows around the island. The young ones will get to learn about fascinating milestones in F1 since its inception in 1950, marvel at the motorsport’s interesting technologies, and catch the screening of two award-winning F1 films – Grand Prix and Senna.
When: 5 May – 30 September.
Where: Bukit Merah Public Library (June), Bedok Public Library (July), Ang Mo Kio Public Library (August), and Central Public Library (September).
How: Check out F1 Singapore GP’s website for the full Pit Stop @ The Libraries schedule.
#2 – Try go-kart racing
500 Singaporeans and Singapore residents (that are physically fit and meet a minimum height requirement of 1.55m) will get the chance to try their hand at a 10-minute go-karting session on the race track at the Rev Up Singapore! Kartnival. The best part? It’s free! If you can’t get a slot at Rev Up Singapore! Kartnival, book yourself a session at Kartright Speedway at Upper Jurong Road.
When: 31 Aug.
Where: Marina Promenade, Turn 23 (near Singapore Flyer), 1 Republic Boulevard, Singapore 038975
How: The slots for the two racing sessions – 12-4pm and 5-9pm – will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, so make sure you head down early.
#3 – Catch a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes action.
It’s no easy feat organizing the world’s only night race, and if you’ve got an inquisitive child who’s yearning for a peek at the behind the scenes preparation, this is one tour you won’t want to miss out on. During this 1.5 hour tour, you’ll get to visit the Paddock, team garages and hospitality homes, and even restricted areas like the race control room, podium, and commentary booths – very cool!
When: 6-9 Sep.
Where: Marina Promenade, Turn 23 (near Singapore Flyer), 1 Republic Boulevard, Singapore 038975.
How: Only 200 passes are available via balloting, and you’ll need to obtain a password from any of the Pit Stop @ The Libraries exhibits to register. Online Balloting closes 7 September, 23:59 hours.
#4 – Experience the pit lane
Want to experience a walk down the pit lane, check out the F1 garages, and explore the circuit park before anyone else in Singapore? Yes you actually can! 2500 lucky folks will get the chance to experience the thrills of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, with five extra lucky balloters getting an exclusive tour of the Caterham F1 Team garage.
When: 18 Sep.
Where: Marina Promenade, Turn 23 (near Singapore Flyer), 1 Republic Boulevard, Singapore 038975
How: Online Balloting closes on 31 Aug, 23:59 hours.
#5 – Prepare to rock out at F1
F1 Singapore GP has announced Grammy-award winning John Legend, electronic-pop legends Pet Shop Boys, prince of reggae Ziggy Marley, and Taiwanese Mando-rock sensation Mayday as this year’s headliners. So, if you haven’t got your hands on tickets already – get them here! Now it’s time time to start listening to their hits and get psyched for the gigs!
Race you there!
