The sky’s the limit for students of Canadian International School, with one of its alumni setting her sights on the Summer Olympics 2024!
Lanihei Connolly, a Canadian International School (CIS) alumna and former competitive swimmer in the school team, is working towards competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics!
Since her student athlete days, Lanihei has won numerous medals for the CIS Huskies swim team. This includes the Singapore National Age Group swimming competition, as well as overseas swim meets in Taiwan, Australia, and Cambodia. She recently won gold and silver for Cook Islands in the 2023 Pacific Games in 50m and 100m breaststroke; and has participated in the 2022 Commonwealth Games as well.
From recreational swimmer to professional swimmer
What started out as a recreational sport soon became one that Lanihei decided to pursue professionally. Being part of the Husky swim team led Lanihei to discover her talent, and she credits CIS for helping her realise her full potential.
“CIS helped lay the foundation for my swimming career. The school has great facilities, especially the 50m pool, which helped me progress quickly early on in my swimming journey. I always remember looking forward to competitions, as everyone always supported one another,” she shared.
The Olympic hopeful recently visited her former school for a swim meet with the Huskies. We can imagine what a treat this must be for CIS’ swimmers!
CIS Huskies: No strangers to the competitive swimming scene
As CIS is a part of the Athletic Conference of Singapore International Schools, the Huskies have opportunities to compete in many inter-school tournaments. The swim team has proved its mettle in various competitions, including winning multiple gold medals in the High School ACSIS. In fact, one CIS swimmer even represented Belgium in the World Junior Surfing Championships in Brazil!
Whether your child loves swimming as a hobby, or intends to swim competitively, CIS welcomes you to check out its competitive swimming programme. Into other sports? No problem – the school has facilities and programmes that cater to a wide range of recreational and competitive sports as well.
You can find out more about these, along with the extracurricular activities the school offers, through CIS’ upcoming Meet The Team Fair. This is your chance to speak to its in-house experts and see its purpose-built facilities too. So, save the date: 8 March 2024, 9am!
