XCL World Academy (formerly known as GEMS World Academy Singapore)’s Sean McAuley shares all you need to know about this exciting educational pathway.
In an ever-evolving globalised world and society, we parents need to ensure our children are equipped with the skills they need to be successful later in life. With that in mind, XCL World Academy (formerly known as GEMS World Academy Singapore) has launched the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP), an innovative graduation program that prepares students for university and life beyond. Read on below to see what GEMS (Singapore)’s Secondary Years Deputy Principal and University Guidance Counsellor Sean McAuley has to say about this new pathway…
A career-focused route to university
When it comes to learning more about university, it’s so much better to get involved in person! Here’s where GEMS (Singapore)’s unique approach comes in. As the first and only international school to offer IBCP in Singapore, your child will have the opportunity to combine academic study with career-related practice in the final two years of school. During this time, they’ll get to build their skills in critical thinking, communication, cross-cultural engagement and applied knowledge, too.
And Sean agrees. “Students will be well prepared to succeed at institutions of higher learning and will gain transferable and lifelong skills,” he says. This could certainly help your child succeed in an increasingly competitive and globalised world, where expectations from universities and employers have become more complex than ever.
What are the differences between the IBCP and IBDP?
You might be familiar with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), but here’s what makes the IBCP stand out: “While the rigorous IBDP is seen as one of the most preferred and traditional routes to a university, the IBCP draws on the academic rigour in combination with career-related study and real-world experience,” explains Sean. “The program is tailored to students’ interests and strengths, encouraging self-confidence and fostering enjoyment in learning.”
Advantages of the IBCP
The IBCP allows your child to specialise in their field of choice, learn from the very best professors and enter university equipped with knowledge and confidence. Think: getting a chance to study foundation university courses to earn credits in high school, accumulate university credits and potentially graduating early, too!
And GEMS (Singapore) recognises the importance of a holistic education. Its partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) will allow your child to fast-track their career in business management, aviation and cyber intelligence, learn graphic and fashion design while supporting your child’s interests. How cool!
