Preparing students for the future is an exciting challenge for every school. The principals of XCL World Academy share with us how their school does it…
Living in a fast-changing world creates an interesting challenge for schools – not only do they need to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to survive in the real world, they also need to ensure that students are future-ready as well. This involves making sure that students are ready for uncreated jobs that will be needed in the near future, ones that we can’t even imagine today.
Understanding this, XCL World Academy (XWA) modelled itself to be “a school of the future” to shape and prepare their learners for the new tomorrow. Students are exposed to an inquiry-based approach to learning in the Early & Primary Years Programme at XWA, before progressing to a constructivist one in the Secondary Years Programme.
This means that even as young learners, XWA students are encouraged to explore the world around them, ask questions, and share ideas. This continues in the Secondary School, where students actively construct knowledge instead of passively receiving it from their teachers. This way, students are able to acquire a range of cognitive and interpersonal skills that will help them thrive in an ever-changing world. The Early & Primary Years and Secondary Years Principals – Edna Lau and Mark Petterson – share how they build future-ready students with us in a recent interview:
With the various programmes offered at XWA, Mark is confident that the school’s students will be able to develop the skills needed to succeed in the future. He says, “With students developing these future-focused mindsets, they can begin to make informed decisions around which pathway – whether it be the High School Diploma, IB Careers-related Programme, or the IB Diploma Programme – and which of those pathways best support their entry into either tertiary education or the workforce.”
