We spoke to XCL American Academy’s founding Superintendent, Darin Carney, to find out more about the new affordable school in Singapore…
You’ve probably already heard that a new and affordable American international school will be opening its doors in Singapore this August 2022. Focusing on what really matters to students’ education journey, XCL American Academy (XAA) will offer a high quality and accessible American education that mirrors the AERO and Common Core curriculum guidelines. The curriculum will also include globally recognised programs like Everyday Math by the University of Chicago, Inspired Science, a balanced approach to literacy with materials from Scholastic, and the acclaimed Second Steps framework for a formal character development program.
The brand-new facilities will be purpose-built for XCL American Academy students, with easy access to a variety of world-class arts, sports, and technology facilities at the adjacent XCL World Academy. This includes a 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool, a large multi-use sports field, tennis courts and a 750-seat auditorium.
We met the XAA’s founding Superintendent, Darin Carney, to learn more about what the school has to offer:
As shared by the Superintendent, one unique feature of XAA is its PioneerTown program, which is a large-scale simulation of a town within the campus. Students will have the opportunity to take on different roles in this ‘town’, learning concepts like economics, negotiation, innovation, and so much more while they’re at it.
“Our school is designed to offer excellent all-around preparation for students planning to study, work, and live not only in the United States but anywhere around the world,” Darin said in the interview.
